  2. 2. 1 Goal: Sustainable healthy diets for all A future state in which every human being has consistent access to a nutritious, high quality diet that promotes human and planetary health, supports child development, prevents disease, and conserves biosphere resources.   3. 3. 2 We are working with 3 African countries to conduct a Landscape and Diagnostic analysis, our focus now slowly shifting to "what comes next" Engagement Diagnostic analysis (April – Aug 2021) Policy & governance design and launch (2 years) Policy implementation Overall FS-TIP initiative and program coordination • Key food system challenges and opportunities, based on fact base • Key policy gaps, incoherencies, and opportunities • Key data and evidence gaps • Process facilitation and coordination • Identify potential policies • Analyses, modelling and evidence generation & synthesis • On-demand expertise • M&E, learning, implementation research, cross-pollination National governments to • Connect to relevant agencies • Provie access to data and relevant officials • Exchange insights with Food Systems Summit Dialogues • Support national TIP structure Develop policies & governance with: • Ministries and agencies • Legislature • Private sector • Civil society • Academia 0 2 3 1 Sustainable healthy diets for all UN Food Systems Summit Sept/Oct Ghana Malawi Rwanda
  4. 4. 3 Our diagnostic framework builds upon existing frameworks, is linked to the FS Summit Action Tracks and leverages systems thinking
  5. 5. 4 Some of the learnings from the FS-TIP work so far... Take a user-centric approach Continuous refinement of inputs and integration of insights in successive iterations leads to improved diagnostic analysis Constant engagement with stakeholders promotes local buy- in and shared understanding of country’s current food systems Work with existing structures Engaging with existing initiatives and structures enables faster progress and leverages local knowledge from the start Setting up two-way exchanges between FS-TIP diagnostic and existing structures can enrich both sides and common understanding of the food system Collaborate & form partnerships Working with a diverse coalition comprising local and global experts promotes the exchange of insights and tailoring of global knowledge to country context and priorities Leveraging different backgrounds from academia to social to public to private sector leads to unique insights and opportunities
  6. 6. 5 FS-TIP will continue to work together with African countries... ...with the development and implementation of integrated and transformative food systems policies ...to conduct similar diagnostic and landscape analyses, leveraging the FS- TIP Toolkit currently being developed
