INTRODUCTION
A developer has acquired a plot measuring about 43 by 21m,between Ndia kuu and thika street of old town mombasa,and has approached you
to redevelop the plot.an existing building built around 1900,was demolisjed under mysterious circumstances. The developer's intentionis to develop
a mixed urban development to maximize the potential for the site,while adhering to the concservation requirements posed by the stakeholder of oldtown
mombasa
The challenge presented by the project is in responding to the diversity of requirements in comprehensive urban development,site conditions and local
authority requirements and in achieving a sustainable design

The elevation design was influenced and
guided by the exisitng ndia kuu street
character and pattern, in an effort to fit in
the new design without much
interferance to the neighbourhood/street
pattern the front facade has been
divided into four parts that projects onto
the street this relates to the the facades
size and scalebof the existing
neighbourhood buildings.
The building has a 3.6m plinth that is
finished with dark brown machine cut
mazeras with the upper part having
waterproof paint this gives the building a
color/material gradient with a dark plinth
that rises up to light upper level.
The building has a canopy with an
'eyebrow' that creates a human friendly
scale for pedestrians
