The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Gujarat, India and was established in 1965 to protect the habitat of the endangered Asiatic lion. The park covers an area of 1,412 square kilometers and contains seven rivers and four reservoirs that provide water resources. It is home to a diverse array of wildlife including the last remaining population of Asiatic lions, leopards, sloth bears, cobras and various other carnivores and herbivores. The park has successfully increased the lion population from 177 to over 500 animals.
