AL: So what’s the problem we are solving?Retirement isn’t working.AL: It’s not working for the finances of retired people. Pension pots are dwindlingand people are having to retire laterDP: It’s not working for their physical and mental health. People stop work and are often at a loss as to what they’re going to do for the next 30 years. Self esteem drops, depression sets in, divorce rates are risingAL: We are in a recession. Many business are limited by not having access to skills and contacts. And in sectors like engineering the skills they need are retiring from the business.
DPGeorge retired 6 months from a high flying career in a global pharmaceutical companyWhen it comes to Pharmaceuticals - you name it he’s done it – From mergers to recessions to product launches he’s been through it. He knows the business inside out and all the main players. After 30 years of hard-won success, he’s finding hard to adjust and he needs help to bridge the transition into retirement. DP:We know this a problem. We’ve spent time this weekend talking in depth to real Bills and real Georges. We have challenged and validated our assumptions with them. We’ve gained new insights. And they have told us that this problem is real and most importantly that they would pay for a solution.

AL:People like Bill can come to Elderflower and find people like George. People with exactly the skills and connections they need. The site makes it easy, safe and secure for Georges and Bills to connect and agree on projects.George can choose to be paid in cash or in once in a lifetime experiences, curated by the Elderflower team.
DP:At last, thanks to Elderflower, Bill meets George! And it’s love at first brief.
AL:So how big is the market? We estimate that 10k top tier consultants retire every yearOn the flip side there are 4.5million SMEs in the UKAnd we aim to capture just 0.01% of that market
DP:We’ve looked that the competition. There are mentoring sites and piece-work sites. The closest competitor is Skilled People.com but as you can see their USP is low cost recruitment. George would not be interested in being on this site.
We have looked hard at possible revenue streams. We will be profitable by charging a combination of a brokerage fee and a commission on the experiences, the site can be profitable in the first 18months..
ALRemember Bill and George. ….We want to make that happen and get retirement working
