3. What is PageSpeed?
Page speed can be described in either "page load
time" (the time it takes to fully display the content on
a specific page) or "time to first byte" (how long it
takes for your browser to receive the first byte of
information from the web server).

“Speeding up websites is important — not just to site owners, but to
all Internet users. Faster sites create happy users and we've seen in
our internal studies that when a site responds slowly, visitors
spend less time there.
But faster sites don't just improve user experience; recent data
shows that improving site speed also reduces operating costs. Like
us, our users place a lot of value in speed — that's why we've
decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings.
We use a variety of sources to determine the speed of a site relative
to other sites.”

● Avoid landing page redirects
● Enable compression
● Improve server response time
● Leverage browser caching
● Minify resources
● Optimize images
● Optimize CSS delivery
● Prioritize valuable content
● Remove render-blocking JavaScript

Enable Compression & Optimize Images
● Use Gzip compress files

● Use Photoshop to compress Images
● PNGs are generally better for graphics with fewer
than 16 colors
● JPEGs are generally better for photographs

Leverage Browser Caching
● Use a tool like YSlow (Mozilla Add-On) to see if you
have an expiration for your cache.
● Then set your "expires" header for how long you
want that information to be cached.
● Set your expiration once per year (unless design
changes frequently)

Minify Resources & Optimize CSS Delivery
● By optimizing your code (including removing spaces, commas, and
other unnecessary characters), you can dramatically increase your
page speed.
● Remove code comments, formatting, and unused code.
● Google recommends using CSSNano and UglifyJS.

Remove Render-Blocking JavaScript
● Browsers have to build a DOM tree by parsing HTML before they can
render a page. If your browser encounters a script during this
process, it has to stop and execute it before it can continue.
● Google suggests avoiding and minimizing the use of blocking
JavaScript.
