INTRODUCTION
The existence of business, as is evident, signified funds required for day-to-day
operations of the firm. It is a great importance on the account of management to
pay particular attention to the planning and control for working capital. The main
aim of capital management is to make sure that the firm is ready to survive its
operation which its adequate income to satisfy each maturing short-run debt and
forthcoming operational expenses.
The flight kitchen means to serve the food to an airlines like airline meal, airline
food or in-flight meal could be a meal served to passenger on board a commercial
plane. These meals are ready by specialist airline services associated unremarkable
served to passengers using an airline service trolley and it is dispatched from
AMBASSADOR SKY CHEF.
These meals vary wide in quality and amount across totally different airline
corporations and categories to travel. They vary from a straightforward snack or
drinkable in short-haul economy category to a seven-course gourmet meal during a
first class long-haul flight. Once price ticket costs were regulated within the
domestic market, food was the first means airlines differentiated themselves.
The pioneers in the field of In-flight catering in India. Ambassador‟s Sky Chef
began its operations in a humble manner in 1942 in small room from the
Ambassador Hotels, Churhgate, Mumbai. Due to the difficulties and challenges in
logistic, and with the expansion, and rapid developments and growth in the
aviation industry from DC/3‟s (Dokata‟s) to larger and more advanced aircraft,
Ambassador Sky Chef acquired a movie studio in the late 60‟s adjacent to the
Santacruz airport Mumbai which it converted into Flight Catering unit of 110,000
sq ft and shifted its operations to this location.
Ambassadors Sky Chef operated from Santacruz till the 90‟s with the development
of a new International Airport in the 90‟s at Sahara, Ambassador‟s Sky Chef
acquired and constructed a new state of art facility with a built up area of over
2,50,000 sq ft on 15‟000 sq mtrs of land adjacent to the new airport to meet the
growing demands and expansion of the aviation industry from where it currently
continues to operate.
In the early 80‟s in view of the major expansion and developments taking place in
the aviation industry in Delhi, Ambassador‟s Sky Chef acquired, constructed and
setup a state of the art in-flight catering facility of approximately 1,60,000 sq ft
built up area on 15,000 sq mtrs of land at Delhi adjacent to the Indira Gandhi
International Airport, New Delhi and continues to operate from there.

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
There were some limitations to this study because the study duration (summer
placement) is very short and it‟s not possible to observe every aspect of working
capital management practices.
Importance of working Capital
Every business is commenced by capital for purchasing fixed asset which remains
in the business for a longer period of time. These capital invested in the business is
referred as „Long term Funds‟ or Fixed Capital‟. Business also requires funds short
period purpose to finance current operation. Investment in short period assets like
inventories, debtors, cash etc. is called „Short term Funds‟ or „Working Capital‟.
When the funds are needed for day to day operation for smooth running of the
business then it is categorized as the „Working Capital‟. The „Working Capital‟ has
to be manage properly as it has equal importance as managing long term finance.
Working capital is necessary for running a business. Business cannot stand if there
is no adequate supply of raw material for processing, for creating a stock of
finished goods to feed the market demand regularly, for cash to pay for wages,
power and other costs, for the ability to great credit to its customer.
We can say that Working Capital is backbone of the business. This a adequate
amount of Working Capital helps to carry out the day to day working of the
business operations without any obstacles.
These characteristics have certain implication:
 The decision regarding managing of the working capital has to be taken
frequently and on a repeat basis.
 The entire cycle of working capital management is interdependent on
various components and mismanagement of any one of its component effect
the running of the organization.
The components of working capital are as follows, which are in various forms
of current assets.
 Stock of cash.
 Stock of Raw Material.
 Stock of Finished Goods.
 Value of Debtors.
 Miscellaneous current assets like short term investment loans & Advances.
Definition:
“WORKING CAPITAL, represents the EXCESS of CURRENT ASSETS over
CURRENT LIABILITIES”
It can be also expressed in equation form:-
WORKING CAPITAL = CURRENT ASSETS - CURRENT LIABILITIES
MONITORING COLLECTION AND RECEIVABLES UNDER TRAINING
To enhance the efficiency of cash management, collections and disbursement
must be properly monitored. In this respect, the following are helpful.
Prompt billing
Often there is a time lag between the dispatch of goods or provision of service and
the sending of bills. By preparing and sending the promptly, a firm can ensure
earlier remittance. It should be realized that it is in the area of billing that the
company‟s control is high and there is a sizeable opportunity to free up cash. To
tap this opportunity the treasurer should work with the controller and other in
accelerating invoice data, mailing bills promptly and identifying payment location.
Expeditious collection of cheques
An important aspect of efficient cash management is to expedite the collection of
cheques. Two important methods for expediting the collection process are (1)
concentration banking, and (2) lock-box system.
Control of Payables
By a proper control of payable, a firm can conserve its cash resources. The
involves several things:
 Payment should be made only as and when they fall due.
 Payable and their disbursement may be centralized. This helps in
consolidating funds at the head office, scheduling payments more
effectively, reducing unproductive bank balance at the regional/local offices
and investing surplus funds more effectively.
