ARCHITECTURE
• The art and science of designing and erecting buildings.
• A style and method of design and construction
• The discipline dealing with the principles of design and construction and
ornamentation of fine buildings
• The profession of designing buildings and environments with consideration
for their esthetic effect
• Is both the process and product of planning, designing and construction
• Architecture is the art and science which defines detail behind graphics,
aesthetics, function, and harmonization of a space in order to bring
comfort to man and the natural environment.
• ...It is an art or science dealing with construction planning and designing
infrastructures. It deals with utility, form or function, and beauty.
A good building should satisfy the three principles –
1. Durability – it should stand up robustly and remain in good condition.
2. Utility – it should be useful and function well for the people using it
3. Beauty – it should delight people and raise their spirits.
ARCHITECT
• One who designs and supervises the construction of buildings or other
large structures.
• Someone who creates plans to be used in making something
• A person skilled in the art of building; one who understands architecture,
or makes it his occupation to form plans and designs of buildings, and to
superintend the artificers employed.
• Different from painters and sculptors becauses his creations are for his
clients
• Great responsibility and is expected to give his clients the best value for
their money
• Strong relationship between Architect and Client which is based on
mutual trust and respect
• An Advisor and a confidant who gives his client correct and unbiased
advice
• Functions as a representative of his client to a limited extent
• Safegaurd his client’s interest
• Cannot be a constructor or builder for his client

his clients as well as contractors.

well as indirectly.

disturbing the ecological balance.
