In this screenshot, at the
beginning of the film, they
immediately use low key
lighting as a typical thriller
convention. This causes
suspense and tension from the
very start of the film. The
medium shot in this scene lets
the target audience see exactly
what is going on its almost
from a POV of someone looking at, what we assume is the main character at the start,
as theres a foreground to this shot and also a background but also it's a slightly low
angle shot which is giving us the impression that someone is looking up to him, this
causes tension and suspense from the start.
The medium shot here with just one light in the background is powerful within this
shot as it lights us the characters face which draws our attention towards him. The
blurred foreground also drags our attention towards the character and what he is
doing. The medium-long shot also links with what we should be looking at within this
screenshot as it lets us see what is going on.
In this low angle shot, as a
target audience, we can
understand that these are
the main characters, as
investigators, the low key
lighting suggests that the
mood is low and links in
with the conversation they
2. may be having. The weather within this scene also metaphorically describes the mood
within these two characters and tells us that there is conflict and tension within the
plot.
This screenshot shows us a close up and a low angle shot of the person laying on the
floor, as the target audience the close up is leading us to believe that he is dead and
the daylight reflecting on the blood seems to bring it out and make it grab our
attention to also make us believe that he is dead and there was crime within this scene.
Within this scene the two main characters are talking about the crime and so it's a
positive mood within the characters, the clear light is backing up that point of a
positive mood. The low angle shot also makes us believe that they are in control and
they are sorting out the crime as we, as the target audience, are looking up to them as
main characters.
