MEANING OF YOGA
 The word yoga has been derived from
the Sanskrit word “ YUG ” which means
to join or to unite to add or to attach .
ORIGIN OF YOGA
 It was a Hindu reformer “ Swami Vivek
Ananda” Who was first introduced “Yoga”
to a larger audience .
 With the passage of time and years yoga
evolved into modern yoga “ Patanjali ” is
often regarded as father of modern yoga
.

PURPOSE OF YOGA
 Yoga is a systematic combination of practice that
help achieve inner piece , good health .
 The following are it’s main goals :-
1. Improvement of physical health .
2. Development of mental health .
3. Enhancement of social health .
4. Improvement of spiritual health .
 Yoga is not just about reaching your toes or
meditating yourself it is about being in touch with
all your sensibilities .
PRINCIPLE OF YOGA
 Yoga is a science not a religion of uniting the mind , body & soul .
 The techniques of yoga are very practical so they can always be applied .
There are five major principles of yoga :-
1. Proper Exercise ( Asans) :-
 It is necessary to keep the body healthy , strong
and flexible .
 The physical exercises or postures in yoga are
called Asan’s .
 They help to improve circulation , increase
flexibility & nervous system .
 Mind is also impacted in a positive way .
2. Proper Breathing ( Pranayama ) :-
 As we know all cells and tissues in our body need
oxygen . Without supply of oxygen , our cells and tissues
become weak and leading to diease .
 Deep breathing provides an abundance of oxygen which
keeps the cells & tissue healthy .
3. Positive thinking and meditation :-
“ Meditation is then royal road to the attainment of freedom , a
mysterious ladder that reaches from earth to heaven , darkness
to light , motility to immotility. ”
4. Proper Diet & Nutrition :-
5. Proper Relaxation ( Swvasana) :-
a) Continued motion cause our body and mind to be over work
and stressed .
b) Rest and relaxation helps to calm the whole system .
TYPES OF YOGA
 There are six types of yogas -
1) Raj Yoga
2) Karma Yoga
3) Bhakti Yoga
4) Gyan Yoga
5) Mantra Yoga
6) Hath Yoga
1. RAJ YOGA :-
 Raj yoga is yoga of the mind .
 It focuses on emotional & intuitive parts of personality.
 It’s purpose is to awaken hidden potential through true understanding
2. KARMA YOGA :-
 “ It is the yoga affection ” this means the act of giving your time ,
efforts & kindness or any selfless action without expectation .
3. BHAKTI YOGA :-
 Bhakti yoga is the yoga of devotion & love for
“ God Or Guru” .
4. GYAN YOGA :-
 Gyan yoga is the yoga of knowledge & wisdom . It is the
yoga of self inquiring & asking questions such as “ Who I
Am ” .
 In this yoga , our attention is turned towards the self &
we are led to answer intuitively.
 Ultimately we recognize and seprate from Ego & remain
trueself.
5. MANTRA YOGA :-
 Mantras are Sanskrit words and phrases that are
spiritually powered .
 They are repeated ( Called JAPA) & chanted with
concentration .
6. HATH YOGA :-
 This yoga originate from raj yoga all the yoga poses &
pranayama exercise can be classified as hath yoga .
BENEFITS OF YOGA
 Practice in yoga has many benefits in improving our health as it
keep us away from disease like – Headache , Fever , Flu .
 It helps in making us Fit , Flexible & Fresh for whole day .
 In our daily life we are busy in working the whole day & forget
all about our health as a result , we always feel Pain & Stress .
 But practicing yoga just once in our daily routine will help
reduce & overcomes the problems .
 Doing posture like –
- Surya Namashkar
- Pranayama
 So yoga is the medicine for nearly every problems as we
practice yoga it also helps in maintaining your inner peace .
ADVANTAGES OF YOGA
 Yoga helps reduce anxiety .
 Yoga treats Arthritis .
 Yoga helps you focus like – Meditation .
 Yogik exercises such as – Mudra enhances our
memory so we can remember the concept .
 Yoga is best for athelets . It gives better
stamina & immunity to perform better at
sports & Gym .
CONCLUSION
 The best way to understand yoga is -
“ Try It Out Yourself ”
