3. The Team of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will
inspect to grant an aerodrome license to the new Airport in
Jharsuguda district.
4. The license will be enabling the launch of the long-planned flight
operations from this major industrial hub, informed sources said
here.
5. Earlier the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had filed aerodrome
licensing application with the DGCA for day visual flight rules
(VFR) ‘Public Use’ Aerodrome with Aerodrome Code3C.
6. AAI Chairman Guru Prasad Mohapatra is in continuous touch
with both the State and Union Government in this regard
7. ACS Home Asit Tripathy, Principal Secretary General
Administration Ashok Kumar Meena and other senior officials
held a meeting with the DGCA authorities.
8. DGCA Team will inspect the airport for next two days as the
aerodrome is ready from all points.

The UDDAN Project comes as a boon to Jharsuguda.
9. The license -- for daytime flight operations after complying with
all relevant standards gets clearance after the DGCA Team
conducts its final inspection of the new airport.
10. Jharsuguda Airport, a Greenfield project is completed recently.
The airport is developed with an investment of over Rs.200
crore.
11. This has facility to handle at least 300 passengers per day. The
funds are utilized on a new modular design passenger terminal,
strengthening and extension of the runway, from 1882 meters to
2391 meters, taxiway, new technical block, control tower, fire
station, staff quarters and state-of-the-art Communication,
Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) Installations.
12. Earlier Chief Secretary A P Padhi held discussion with Union
Secretary Civil Aviation Rajiv Nayan Choubey and urged for
both daytime and nighttime flight operations.
13. Chief Secretary Mr.Padhi stated that commercial flight operation
from Jharsuguda would be financially viable in view of growing
industrial base in the area.
14. Accordingly Mr.Padhi requested the Union Secretary Civil
Aviation to take up the matter with commercial airliners like Air
India, IndiGo, GoAir and Air Asia for exploring introduction of
regular commercial flights from the Jharsuguda Airport .
15. He had also stressed on the need of regular flight operation from
Jharsuguda to other cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata,
besides Bhubaneswar, under RCS-UDAN scheme.
16. Airport authority of India (AAI) is making all out efforts to make
Jharsuguda airport through in every respect. After Jharsuguda
the State Government is making serious efforts to include
Jeypore, Rourkela and Utkela airports in RCS-UDAAN.
17. Soon Rourkela is expected to be added in RCS-UDAAN
Scheme and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) authorities
support is needed as Government of India is favoring the idea.
18. With huge investment in Industry and Mining Sector pouring into
the State, there will be greater need of flights for the State, feel
senior officials in Directorate of Civil Aviation in Government of
Odisha.
