•Storage device that uses magnetization process
•Stores data in tracks and sectors
•Consist of
• Platter: made by nonmagnetic materials covered by
magnetizable materials
• Spindle: rotate platter
• Head: read and write data bit
• Actuator: moves the head arm
• Ribbon cable: connects motherboard and magnetic disk

4. WORKING MECHANISM
•To write
• Electronic pulse are sent to head
• Produce magnetic field
• Resulting magnetic patterns are recorded
•To read
• Surface under the head produces current
• Produced current is of same polarity as recorded
