INTRODUCTION
Compensation And Total Rewards make up what we believe to be the most professionally powerful, primary, persuasive,
pervasive, and promising area of, and approach to, Human Resource Management. But this is lost on many practitioners and
organizations who are still steeped in old ways of doing things and struggling to make themselves relevant or impactful.
Compensation And Rewards make up one of the largest expenses of many organizations. The broader and more modern concept
of Total Rewards (as defined by WorldatWork, the leading global association of professionals in the subject matter area)
presents very powerful and sustainable combination of strategies and means of influencing and rewarding desired Attitudes,
Behaviors, Contributions, and Delivery of outcomes and RESULTS by employees, whilst aligning more significantly with
shareholder value creation and other stakeholder interests.
In recent times there has been a strong movement towards integration of the silos that once constituted what is now called human
resource management. One of the integrating frameworks is that offered by the concept and practice of Total Rewards
Management.
This course introduces participants to fundamentals of the world of “Total Rewards Management”. However, in order to enhance
the conceptual leap from “old” to the “new” frames of reference, this presentation uses the term “Compensation and Total Rewards
Management”. “Compensation” is one of the familiar silos of old. “Total Rewards” is a broader, newer term that includes
compensation, but goes far beyond its limiting confines. In certain sectors and locations, the concept of Total Rewards is relatively
new, or even quite foreign. As such, a reference to “compensation” is utilized, even though we will soon see that it is but a small
(albeit important) part of the whole.

In recent times there has been a strong movement towards integration of the silos that once constituted what is now called human resource management. One of the integrating frameworks is that offered by the concept and practice of Total Rewards Management. This course introduces participants to fundamentals of the world of “Total Rewards Management”. However, in order to enhance the conceptual leap from “old” to the “new” frames of reference, this presentation uses the term “Compensation and Total Rewards Management”. “Compensation” is one of the familiar silos of old. “Total Rewards” is a broader, newer term that includes compensation, but goes far beyond its limiting confines.
