Howard to Host the Cast of ABC’s Black-ish
The Cast Will Participate in a Conversation About Blacks in Media
Washington, D.C. –The cast of ABC’s newest show, Black-ish will be visiting Howard
University on Monday, Oct. 20, to promote its current season and participate in a
conversation discussing blacks in media.
The event will take place at 3 p.m. in Cramton Auditorium and is open to all students,
faculty and staff. Moderated by a selected group of students, the discussion will focus on
blacks in the media and the importance of black representation in television today.
Following the discussion, a question and answer session will be held, followed by a brief
meet and greet on the lower level of Cramton Auditorium.
The first black family sitcom on network television in years, Black-ish stars former
Bison, Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis-Ross, star of the hit show Girlfriends. The
show follows Andre Johnson (Anderson) and his struggle to try and maintain a sense of
cultural identity amongst his wife (Ellis-Ross) and children. The show premiered Sept. 24
and has received positive reviews from critics, prompting ABC to order a full season of
the show after only its third episode.
“I am very proud to return to Howard University and speak to fellow Bison about the
importance of black representation in the media. Black-ish comes at such pivotal time in
our country where race is being discussed in various ways and I feel that Black-ish brings
something significant to the discussion,” said Anderson.
Founded in 1867, Howard University is a private, research institution comprised of 13
schools and colleges. Students pursue undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees
in more than 120 areas of study, with Howard producing more African-American Ph.D.

Prudential ranks 12th on Computerworld’s ‘Best Places to Work in IT’
Forget about Silicon Valley. Prudential is one of the best places
to work in tech.
For the sixth consecutive year, Prudential has been named one of
the “100 Best Places to Work in IT,” by Computerworld
magazine. This year, the publication changed the way it ranks
companies on the list. Now, they are ranked according to size—
large, medium and small. Prudential ranked 12 out of 55 among
large corporations, and the results were published in a special
issue of the magazine.
"Our information technology professionals partner with our
businesses to deliver quality results and are proud of the work
they do,” says Barbara Koster, chief information officer. “They
take great pride in Prudential’s brand and reputation.”
She also said that one way Prudential recruits and develops IT
talent is through community outreach to Veterans and high school
graduates in inner-city areas.
“For several years, Prudential has been a lead sponsor of Workforce Opportunity Services, a non-profit
organization that provides education and career opportunities to urban high school graduates," she explains.
"In addition, the WOS program has been adapted for military Veterans through a program called VETalent.”
In addition, Prudential offers a flexible work environment that supports work/life effectiveness. More than 80
percent of the company’s employees take advantage of that option on average each month. That
percentage has increased each year since 2002.

Finnie, editor-in-chief of Computerworld.

Michele Green named among Black Enterprise’s Top Diversity Executives
Michele Green, Prudential’s chief diversity officer, was
named one of Black Enterprise’s Top Diversity Executives in a
special report issued this month. The magazine chose Green
and 52 other chief diversity officers from the nation’s 250
largest publicly traded corporations.
“Diversity and inclusion is more than just recruiting diverse
talent; it is about marketing and engaging employees and the
community at large," says Green. "They are important pillars
that support the work we do at Prudential.”
Black Enterprise also recognized the top global diversity
officers, executive and senior vice presidents and vice
presidents in its report, issued annually.
The magazine consulted corporations, diversity professionals
and trade associations to compile the list. According to the
magazine, the executives chosen work to oversee and
implement community outreach and the policies and programs
that advance African Americans, Latinos and other ethnic
minorities as well as women, people with disabilities, and the
LGBT population.

Prudential is one of the best places to work in tech. For the sixth consecutive year, Prudential has been named one of the “100 Best Places to Work in IT,” by Computerworld magazine. This year, the publication changed the way it ranks companies on the list. Now, they are ranked according to size— large, medium and small. Prudential ranked 12 out of 55 among large corporations, and the results were published in a special issue of the magazine. "Our information technology professionals partner with our businesses to deliver quality results and are proud of the work they do,” says Barbara Koster, chief information officer. “They take great pride in Prudential’s brand and reputation.” She also said that one way Prudential recruits and develops IT talent is through community outreach to Veterans and high school graduates in inner-city areas. “For several years, Prudential has been a lead sponsor of Workforce Opportunity Services, a non-profit organization that provides education and career opportunities to urban high school graduates," she explains. "In addition, the WOS program has been adapted for military Veterans through a program called VETalent.” In addition, Prudential offers a flexible work environment that supports work/life effectiveness. More than 80 percent of the company’s employees take advantage of that option on average each month. The magazine chose Green and 52 other chief diversity officers from the nation’s 250 largest publicly traded corporations. “Diversity and inclusion is more than just recruiting diverse talent; it is about marketing and engaging employees and the community at large," says Green. "They are important pillars that support the work we do at Prudential.” Black Enterprise also recognized the top global diversity officers, executive and senior vice presidents and vice presidents in its report, issued annually. The magazine consulted corporations, diversity professionals and trade associations to compile the list. According to the magazine, the executives chosen work to oversee and implement community outreach and the policies and programs that advance African Americans, Latinos and other ethnic minorities as well as women, people with disabilities, and the LGBT population.
