Distribution
Frequency
Distribution
Frequency distributions are visual
displays that organise and present
frequency counts so that the
information can be interpreted more
easily. The frequency distribution
indicates how the data set is
partitioned among several
categories of classes by listing all
categories along with the
corresponding number ( frequency )
of data values of each of them .
MANAGEMENT
DATA
The frequency distribution will indicate how often each value
in the scale was used by the participants in their responses
or in measurements of their behavior. Frequency distributions
can show absolute frequencies or relative frequencies, such
as proportions or percentages .
A frequency distribution of data can be shown in a table or
graph. Some common methods of showing frequency
distributions include frequency tables, histograms or bar
charts.
TYPES OF
FREQUENCY
DISTRIBUTIONS
Qualitative or Categorical Frequency
Distribution
It is a frequency distribution table where the
data are grouped according to some qualitative
characteristics; data are grouped into non-
numerical categories. Categorical frequency
distribution is used for data that can be placed in
specific categories, such as nominal- or ordinal-
level data. For example, data such as political
affiliation, religious affiliation, or major field of
study would use categorical frequency
distributions.
Qualitative or Categorical
Frequency Distribution Frequency Table of Highest Degree Held by
CEOs of 40 Large Corporations
For categorical data, each category
and its frequency are shown, as in
this frequency table, which
summarizes the highest degree held
by executives in 40 large
corporations
Quantitative
Frequency
Distribution
It is a frequency distribution table
where the data are grouped
according to some numerical or
quantitative characteristics .
EXAMPLE :
A frequency table for the ages of
women visiting the library during a
wine-and-cheese book-signing event.

c) Row classifiers are the classification of categories describing the data and is
usually found at the left most side of the tab.

FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION TABLE
Example 2. Construct a frequency distribution
table of the blood types of 30 patients and make
an interpretation.

B O A B O B O O B A
FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION TABLE
Solution:
Table 3
Distribution of Patients According to Blood Types
Interpretation
Table 3 shows that most patients have an “O” blood type (n = 12) while thefewest
patients have an “AB” blood type (n = 3)
USING
JASP
& EXCEL
Solution:
Step 1. Using Microsoft
Excel, encode the raw
data.
Step 2. Save the encoded
data under .csv.
Step 3. Open
the JASP
Software
Step 4. Open
the data file
Step 5: Under
Descriptives, move
Sex, Age, Course,
FMI, Year level and
School of
Origin to Variables
box and Check the
Frequency tables
box
RESULTS OF
THE RAW
DATA RUN
USING JASP
AND EXCEL
Out of thirty participants, both male (n = 15) and female (n = 15) have the
same number of participants, sixty percent of the participants aged below 20 years
old (n =18) while forty percent aged 20 years old and above (n = 12). When
categorized according to course, each course has nearly thirty-four percent (n = 10).
There are around forty percent of the participants belong to high family monthly
income (n = 13) while roughly fifty seven percent of the participants belong to low
family monthly income (n = 17). When categorized as year level, approximately
