4. SEXTECH?
WAIT… WHAT?
WHAT IS SEXTECH?
‘sextech is any technology designed with the
intention of enhancing human sexuality and
sexual experience’
The key value of sextech products and services is that they are designed
around relationships (with self, others, society), bringing new ideas of
intimacy and desire to the human experience. While there is plenty of
potential in this space, it is largely untapped.
This event is designed to influence the direction of the market, with the
ultimate aim of changing the cultural conversation and attitudes towards
sexuality.

THE EVENT
The pre-event briefing saw over 60 participants, mentors and subject
matter experts come together at the Design Hub RMIT to hear stories of
lived experience and innovative sextech, and to learn about the
challenges that were set out for the hackathon weekend.
The challenge statements were “pitched” to the assembled audience of
hackers, hipsters, hustlers and humanitarians by the “Challenge Owners”,
and then the participants took the stage and microphone. They had only
30 seconds to lightning pitch their idea and call for team members.
As team speed dating took place, 9 new teams emerged. Some had
never met before. Some had no idea what to expect.
Over 82% of the participants had never been to a hackathon before. We
were breaking new ground.
6. CHALLENGES
THE EVENT CHALLENGES

range of sexual preferences, desires and needs to design a sex
toy for the future - with a specific demographic (elderly,

shift the stigma - particularly for young people?
