What is a technology evangelist?

Promoter of a technology of a company or organization.
•
“Developer advocate”.
•
Part marketing, part technical.
•
An enthusiastic advocate of the ideals of a group.
•
Connection between customers/users and a group/organization.

Very busy and varied!
•
Morning starts with checking the social media, updating,
connecting.

Read e-mails of customers/users and answer and connect.
•
Long term projects, e.g., write articles and books.
•
Identify conferences, submit articles, make connections.

Enthusiasm.
•
Persistence.
•
Cursiosity.
•
Clarity.
•
Interest in presentations, writing, and communicating.

See LinkedIn, see monsterboard.com, etc.
•
Sometimes a lot of demand, sometimes less.
•
There are many names for this position, e.g., evangelist,
advocate, community manager, and technical writer.

Often an organization doesn't know they need an evangelist.
•
Many evangelists grow into their role from something else.

Be empathetic.
•
Ability to handle criticism.
•
Have a broad technical interest.

Ability to explain complex topics clearly.
