LinkedIn is the unsung hero of social-media platforms because it added social features long after places such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. However, for people seeking a professionally oriented and serious environment, it has become a power platform.
I’ve been trying many techniques for more than a year, and I’d like to share some of my best LinkedIn tips for the art of tapping the social-media power of LinkedIn.

3. REBOOT YOUR BRAIN
Stop thinking of LinkedIn
as only a place to find
jobs make connections, and
close deals. This is much
too narrow a view of the
new LinkedIn.
4. GET SERIOUS
The serious and professional nature of
LinkedIn means that you should not share
quotes or popular memes such as cat
photos. You should assume that a
potential employer or business partner
would check your LinkedIn posts someday.
5. GET NARROW
On LinkedIn, more so than on other
platforms, it’s a good idea to stay
focused on a few core topics to establish
thought leadership. I share content about
innovation, entrepreneurship, writing,
and technology.
6. SHUT UP
If you want to rant and rave, troll,
and express your strong opinions about
gun control, women’s rights, climate
change, and terrorism, do it where it
doesn’t matter such as Facebook,
Google+, or Twitter. If you cannot
control yourself in your posts or in
your comments, then simply shut up.

7. Words of Wisdom
A good test for everything you do on
LinkedIn is,
“Would you put this on your resume?”
9. Words of Wisdom
Share your SlideShare presentations
as a short-form LinkedIn update and
also embed them in long-form
published posts. SlideShare is a
powerful way to establish your
professional standing, so deploy it
as much as you can.
13. Final tip: If you use the social-media
juice of LinkedIn as I’ve described, more
people will view your profile.
Thus, it’s more important than ever to complete
your profile entirely, keep it up do date, and
add a high-quality photo and cover photo.
No one wants to hire or connect with the blue-head,
default profile that screams, “I don’t
care and you shouldn’t either!”
14. This SlideShare is based on a
tiny part of Guy’s book, The Art of
Social Media: Power Tips for Power
Users with co-author, Peg Fitzpatrick.

more from where this came.
