The Winchester Mystery House is the former residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester. According to a Boston medium, Sarah was told she must continuously build a house for herself and the spirits of people killed by Winchester rifles. By the time of her death in 1922, Sarah had built a sprawling mansion with over 160 rooms, 2,000 doors, and 10,000 windows across six acres, believing that if the house was never finished, no ghost could settle in.
