✘ Social media is a medium that is growing quite prevalent nowadays
because of its user-friendly characteristics.
✘ Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. are
allowing people to unite with each other across distances.
✘ In other words, the entire world is at just one touch finger touch
away and wholly thanks to social media. Today’s generation is
particularly one of the most aggressive users of social media.

✘ Social Media can be defined as an array of internet-based
platforms, which promotes and enhance the sharing of information.
✘ Some of the most common types of social media are websites and
applications focused to microblogging, forums, social bookmarking,
social creation, social networking and Wikipedia.

Social media and technology offer us greater convenience and
connectivity:
✘ Staying connected with family and friends worldwide via email, text,
FaceTime, etc.
✘ Quick access to information and research
✘ Banking and bill pay at our fingertips
✘ Online learning, job skills, content discovery (YouTube)

9. Harms of social media
Along with the good comes the bad. With all of its benefits, the nature
of social media presents a range of potential issues.
✘ Online vs Reality. Social media itself is not the problem. It is the way
people use it in place of actual communication and in-person
socializing. “Friends” on social media may not actually be friends,
and may even be strangers.
✘ Self-image Issues. Social media sites provide tools that allow people
to earn others’ approval for their appearance and the possibility to
compare themselves to others. It can be associated with body
image concern.

10. ✘ Fear of Missing Out - Fear of missing out (FOMO) is a social anxiety
stemming from the belief that others might be having fun while the
person experiencing the anxiety is not present.
✘ Addiction - Social media addiction is a behavioral addiction that is
characterized as being overly concerned about social media, driven
by an uncontrollable urge to log on to or use social media, and
devoting so much time and effort to social media that it impairs
other important life areas.

11. Ugly face of social media
Sadly, there is an ugly side to all that technology offers. While bullying
is not a new concept, social media and technology have
brought bullying to a new level. It becomes a more constant, ever-
present threat -- cyberbullying.
Statistics Shows that every 7 minutes a child is bullied.

feel a positive sensation
from dopamine.

perpetuating the habit
of using it. Dopamine’s
motivational properties
play a role in addiction.
