What happens after a generation of linearly
designed tech? Brandon Schmittling from Huge
considers the history of user-centered design and
how to prepare for a new set of challenges.
4. There’s a large and widening gap between
the people we planned for vs. the people
we actually have to design for in the
coming decade.
Over the last 75 years, we’ve created an expectation of (and
planned for) rational people but in reality, people are anything but.
Designers have done well catering to a generation of people who
have a used tech in a linear fashion but what happens after that?
The world of digital is wrestling with tensions brought about by the
need to understand and align with a new crowd:
The Innovative User.
By examining historical developments influencing and creating the
need for user-centered design we can gain a better understanding of
its importance and direction in the future and how best to prepare
for new set of design challenges brought on by changing
expectations.
