The goal is to return to work after SXSW feeling inspired by innovative ideas. Here are some innovative ideas that inspired us this year.
WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! “A Few Days In Austin…” by Ben Rubin, Meerkat CEO https://medium.com/@Meerkat/sxsw-day-1-5-8ac51255fae1
During SXSW Interactive, starting on Friday, March 13th, Meerkat streams from Austin shot up, and views of those streams are reaching over 25,000 per day. http://simplymeasured.com/blog/2015/03/16/91000-meerkats-how-many-popped-up-at-sxsw/
On March 26th, Twitter finally launched Periscope - http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/27/technology/tech-titans-bet-that-the-world-is-ready-for-the-streaming-selfie.html?_r=0
On March 30th, BGR.com posted this article on Meerkat dying a slow death http://bgr.com/2015/03/30/meerkat-vs-periscope-analysis-journalism/ Lesson #1: Total platform dependency is a risk not to be taken lightly Lesson #2: PR can make you and kill you - there are some who magically "time" exits at PR zeniths; but the real game is building something of actual value, and letting the attention come ... not the other way around (which is the way silicon valley unfortunately trains entrepreneurs to do, and tech journalists seem to reward.
WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! Brands went on the offense at SXSW this year. Brands are investing real budgets and resources to drive their businesses forward. This was clear at this year’s SXSW Interactive, featuring over 80 pitch events, and that number doesn’t include the private and off-site competitions. More here- http://blog.getkite.co/2015/03/24/how-brands-are-going-on-the-offense-at-sxsw-and-all-year-round/
SXSW has turned into a big branded monster, but it is about the gimmicks, not the brands. More here- http://thenextweb.com/insider/2015/03/17/sxsw-is-about-the-gimmicks-not-the-brands/
Four brands you didn’t expect to see at SXSW this year(I’ll add bausch and lomb to the list) - http://digiday.com/brands/sxsw2015-three-brands-you-didnt-expect-to-see-at-sxsw-this-year/

WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! Most Packed ‘made in Japan tech’ SXSW with tons of innovation in Japan row. Here are some other Japan innovations. WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! Own the real-life conversation. We’re moving rapidly from a spectator culture to participant culture where special moments happen when technology can bring people who are not connected in real-life together. #SXSWYik three principles - Start simple. Start small. Start now. Yik Yak Founders defend themselves against criticism - http://techcrunch.com/2015/03/16/yik-yak-founders-sxsw/

WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! Crossfit Brand Chief Jimi Letchford, discussed knowing your brand story and staying true to your community. Part of what makes CrossFit so popular is that they are making business opportunities for OTHER people. Every 2 hours, 24 mins a new CrossFit gym opens; with 93% success rate after five years of business #SXCrossFit #SXSW
Crossfit offers an exercise in corporate teamwork- http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/31/business/crossfit-offers-an-exercise-in-corporate-teamwork-too.html?_r=0
WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! Storytelling is now storyselling. When you think of a creating content it’s not just a question of reimagining the content. It’s about re-engineering the way content is developed, promoted and shared. Ten years from now mobile phones will be everyone’s hub for content consumption. Brands will need to follow the lead of Thrillist and Red Bull to incorporate both content and commerce to find new ways to directly monetize users outside of the current advertising models.
WANT MORE? DIG IN FURTHER! The keynote speech from Astro Teller (the ‘Captain’ of Google X) was focused on the need for all companies to take risks and fail fast. In his words, ‘Failing early is cheaper than failing late’. The faster you can get your ideas in contact with the real world, the faster you can discover what is broken with your idea. Bumps and scrapes are critical for informing the future of products. Get out there. Lean fast. Fail fast. Aim for 10x better.
