Wmention of the United Arab Emirates
are its massive oil reserves, long
stretches of the golden sand, and the majestic Burj
Khalifa. But the country is much more than that and
is determined to secure a place on the global map of
non-oil manufacturing companies.
With gigantic strides in the manufacturing sector,
this country has risen as an international
manufacturing hub and reduce its economic
dependency simply on fossil fuels.
Enterprising people ushering in the best in
manufacturing and the government’s focus on the
manufacturing sector are testimony to the fact that
the country is close to its goal. In fact, Dubai has set
up one of the largest manufacturing hubs in the
UAE.
Be it electrical machinery, plastic and rubber,
minerals, precious stones, metals, food and
beverages, bottling, chemicals, automobiles,
textiles, publishing and printing, air conditioning,
cosmetics, and perfumes, etc. the UAE is taking an
admirable leap in every manufacturing vertical.

5. (GDP) of the country. And the manufacturing sector is
growing at an exponential rate. With a robust economic
growth due to the oil and gas reserves, the UAE could
comfortably skip all the hassles of raising capital for its
manufacturing sector.
Thus, with the support of the government, the
manufacturing sector is seeing only a steady rise. Foreign
Direct Investments are also in the offing with the
government willing to have them for the country’s
manufacturing sector.
Dubai Industrial Park is one of the initiatives to boost the
non-oil manufacturing sector of the Emirates. The sudden
growth of the construction sector in Dubai and the other
Emirates is thus no coincidence.
With this growth, the other manufacturing companies
also saw a steady rise. The manufacturing sector is touted
to have seen a whopping increase in net profits to the tune
of 50% or more in the past few years. The sector has
maintained a steady growth of around 5 % every year as
per the news reports.
With the world becoming flatter by the day global trade
has become crucial and UAE having realised this, is
making every possible effort to foray into the global
manufacturing market and remain in the top bracket.
This land of enterprising people grabbed every
opportunity they could get and proved their mettle in the
manufacturing sphere while also contributing to the
country’s GDP. To applaud the efforts of these dynamic
businesspersons in the field of manufacturing, we at
Insights Success, came up with an edition dedicated to
them – UAE’s Best Manufacturing Companies.
We are sure it will give you different insights about
businesses in the Emirates. Have an interesting read!

Emirates Glass LLC is a renowned
name and an innovative company that
has made its name by providing the
highest quality of architectural glass
and helping bring countless
architectural fantasies to life.
Emirates Glass was established in 1997
by Mr. Khalid Bin Kalban, that later
became the leading provider of energy-
efficient architectural glass in the
Middle East. The company has been an
integral part of Dubai's growth and
evolution, having supplied glazing and
expertise for many of the most iconic
buildings across the city.
Emirates Glass has also expanded its
international presence and are proud
suppliers of their glass solutions to
GCC countries such as Saudi Arabia,
Oman, and Kuwait, and also to
Azerbaijan, Turkey, India, Sri Lanka,
Pakistan, Bangladesh, East and South
Africa and Canada.
All the products are developed and
manufactured locally in the UAE.
Within their own group of companies,
Emirates Glass combines the entire
supply and value chain of glass – from
raw glass manufacturing in Abu Dhabi,
over coating in Dubai Investment Park,
to processing, laminating and
fabrication of insulating glass units in
Al Quoz; having all of this under one
roof is absolutely unique in the region.
Standing Apart
Establishing and maintaining any sort
of differentiation and competitive
advantage is a challenge in any market.
Emirates Glass prides itself on being a
home-grown UAE company, so
everything made and supplied by them
is a contribution to the local economy
and industrial landscape of the country.
Being 'local' means Emirates Glass is
geographically close to customers and
their projects which means being able
to provide immediate personal support
during design and construction periods
but also shortest turnaround and lead
times as well as delivery.
The company is providing glass
solutions as a one-stop-shop, so that
their customers have a single point of
contact for every element used and
every production step taken. This
eliminates the oftentimes tedious
search for a responsible party should
any of the customers face issues with
the products supplied.
Products and Expertise
Emirates Glass LLC's product range
includes more than 400 different in-
house developed performance coatings,
from hard and solar control coatings to
low-emissivity single and double silver
coatings across the entire color
spectrum to meet even the most
challenging requirements that the
company receives from consultants and
architects in terms of performance and
aesthetics. Other than that, Emirates
Glass produces a wide array of double
or triple glazed insulating glass units.
Emirates Glass has also unveiled the
EmiKaplux Series which includes
Mashrabiya, diffusers and mesh
products – an exciting array of
laminates, interlayers and inserts that
increase performance and create
fascinating visual effects to reflect
UAE's heritage and ability to integrate
traditional elements in modern and
contemporary architecture. Emirates
Glass has also provided 'ARMAX',
their very own anti-reflective coated

Emirates Glass also offers SmartLite -
the state-of-the-art switchable glass,

Bullet resistant glass is also
manufatured by Emirates Glass which
is a multi-layered laminated glass with
a combination of glass lites and

the required ballistic resistance.
Leader of the Innovators
Mr. Rizwanulla Khan, a name
synonymous to the Glass industry in
Middle East, is the Executive
President of Emirates Glass LLC,
Saudi American Glass and LumiGlass
Industries.
He joined the Company on September
20, 2005 as Senior Vice President –
manufacturing and operations at Glass
LLC. Since assuming the Executive
President position for three glass
subsidiaries on December 23, 2013,
Mr. Rizwanulla Khan has been
responsible for the company's overall
vision, strategy, and financial
objectives.
A loving and caring leader, who has
inspired hundreds to perform and
achieve results; under his leadership,
Emirates Glass has delivered record
sales and profits of more than 50%. All
this was not possible without the
support of the multi-disciplinary teams
that have worked together and
synergized to produce best results.
In his current role, Rizwanulla Khan
emphasizes on company's long-term
strategic plan, which is focused on
increasing geographic penetration in
the global and regional glass industry
and delivering sustainable, long-term,
profitable growth.
Mr. Rizwanulla Khan is a knowledge
powerhouse who is strategically
focused and a result-oriented leader
with unparalleled enthusiasm, passion,
and energy. A maestro of the art of
management, he is the living
embodiment of the phrase ‘lead by
example’.
Leveraging Technology
Business and technological
developments always go hand in hand.
Given the company's emphasis and
keeping up to date on customer needs
(in terms of environment protection
and sustainability) and the
technological advancements that take
place within the glass industry,
Emirates Glass has updated its plant
with new jumbo size high-efficiency
machines that will increase the
production at operational efficiency.
Sharing his opinion on the importance
of aligning one's business with the
latest technological developments, Mr
Khan says, “companies that do not
evolve and develop based on current
market trends are facing the risk of
having their technology (and products)
obsolete as compared to the market.
This challenging situation could have
an adverse impact on the business. The
company personnel are also expected
to be equipped with highly
professional technical knowledge thus
playing their part in the decision
making. This all will help us in
acquiring greater market share for the
company which will ultimately result
in the growth of company's profits and
revenue.”
The goal of
Emirates Glass is
not only providing
the full range of
high-performance
large glass panels,
but also
guarantee the
highest quality
standard available
in the glass world
17. Bequeathing the Keys to Success
We asked Mr Khan on his advice to
budding entrepreneurs who aspire to
enter the glass manufacturing space, to
which he says, "many entrepreneurs
start businesses to seize short-term
opportunities without thinking about
long-term strategy. To be a successful
entrepreneur, one, however, needs to
make the transition from a tactical to a
strategic orientation so that they can
begin to build crucial capabilities and
resources.”
"The options that are appropriate for
one entrepreneurial venture may be
completely inappropriate for another.
Entrepreneurs must make a
bewildering number of decisions, and
they must make the decisions that are
right for them. Entrepreneurs need to
analyse the situations in which they
find themselves, establish priorities
among the opportunities and problems
they face, and make rational decisions
about the future.”
“An entrepreneur who wants to build a
sustainable company in the glass
industry must formulate a bold and a
more explicit strategy. The strategy
should integrate the entrepreneur's
aspirations with specific long-term
policies about the needs the company
will serve, its geographic reach, its
technological capabilities, and other
strategic considerations. To help attract
people and resources, the strategy must
embody the entrepreneur's vision of
where the company is going instead of
where it is. The strategy must also
provide a framework for making the
decisions and setting the policies that
will take the company there.”
A Bright and Shiny Future
As the region continues to grow,
Emirates Glass' prospects are
promising. Looking forward, the
company will further expand its
footprint across the GCC and Middle
Eastern region. The company is both
enthused and determined to drive
innovation throughout the Middle East
and beyond and strive to be even closer
to the new trends in architectural
industry. The surging demand for
EGL's eco-friendly glass further
reinforces the growing commitment
towards sustainable development and
green building principles. With such
quality products, Emirates Glass is
aggressively aiming at increased
market share in existing and new
geographies.
The goal of Emirates Glass is not only
providing the full range of high-
performance large glass panels, but
also guarantee the highest quality
standard available in the glass world.

22. The global COVID-19 pan-
demic has devastated lives
while putting a halt to major
economic activities and introducing
various challenges for governments
and nations. It has disrupted the normal
way of life, while forcing people to
stay indoors and to remain away from
their near and dear ones.
However, during the current global
pandemic crisis, social media has
played a prominent role in providing
necessary information to the audience
and keeping them updated about recent
developments. Social media outlets
such as Twitter and Facebook are being
used by government authorities to
communicate with the citizens during
the times of this major crisis.
Moreover, it has helped people to stay
connected globally while staying
indoors. This has ensured that people
are able to communicate effectively by
overcoming the risk of getting infected.
Social media can most certainly be
used as an efficient tool of
communication during these testing
times. But people should consider its
various advantages and disadvantages
to ensure its careful utilization.
Advantages of Social Media
Social media can act as a boon during
these difficult times by keeping people
connected and keeping them updated
with accurate information. Keeping
this in mind, let’s explore the various
advantages of social media during the
pandemic:
Swift Circulation of Information
Social media provides the advantage of
disseminating information globally at
the simple click of a button. Trusted
public health organizations such the
WHO are using social media to post
verified resources, which is very
beneficial for the general public. In
fact, global leaders are using social
media sharing platforms such as
Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to
ensure that 100% accurate knowledge
is delivered to the audience. Govern-
ments are actively using social media
to interact directly with the public and
to eliminate misinformation.
Spreading Awareness
The pandemic has forced people to
stay at home. With plenty of time at
their disposal, they are doing their part
in creating awareness about
coronavirus through social media.
Major celebrities are using these
platforms to create awareness and
influence people to take steps to ensure
their own safety. On the other hand,
social media influencers are informing
their followers about personal hygiene.
Many national and international
organizations are also collaborating
with various social media platforms to
create awareness about Covid-19.
The
Cause-and-Effect
Relationship between
Social Media
and the Pandemic
20 | March 2021 | www.insightssuccess.com
23. Supporting Education
The arrival of the pandemic has
resulted in the shutting down of
educational institutions and the
postponement of examinations. To
tackle with this challenge, schools and
colleges are conducting virtual
classrooms with the help of social
networking sites such as Google
Classroom, Zoom, Skype, and so on.
These sites have provided teachers and
students with the opportunity to
interact regularly and complete the
courses in time.
Disadvantages of social media use
Just like everything else, social media
also has various disadvantages on the
flip side. Along with a variety of
advantages, it comes with own share of
challenges. Some of the disadvantages
of social media during the pandemic
are as follows:
Widespread of Misinformation
Social media platforms are a huge
ocean of endless information which
can either be genuine or fake. Many
users sometimes knowingly or
unknowingly share false information.
This may lead to the creation and
sharing of misinformation on a global
scale, which may be detrimental for the
well-being of individuals and societies
at large.
The dissemination of incorrect,
erroneous, alarmist and exaggerated
information can spread fear, chaos, and
confusion among the audience. As a
result, people may fall prey to depres-
sion, anxiety, and other psychiatric
illnesses. Due to the spread of various
false information regarding Covid-19
in the social media, many people feel
that the pandemic is a hoax, a false
propaganda of the government and
other authorities. As a result, they
refrain from using protective measures
against the pandemic, and fall prey to
the same.
Unnecessary Spread of Fear
As mentioned above, in the current
scenario social media can act as either
a boon or a bane. If people use this
platform as a means to spread fear of
coronavirus, then it will do no good.
People unaware of the current situation
will consider false information
regarding the pandemic as true, which
will in turn affect their mental health.
The consequences can be ugly ranging
chaos, increasing violence and anarchy,
which will eventually be very difficult
to control.
Promotion of Anti-Social Propa-
ganda
Many anti-social organizations may
promote false information regarding
coronavirus through social media.
Some of these organizations may use
social media and Covid-19 itself to
propagate their immoral agendas. They
may influence the masses by saying
that the pandemic is nothing but a faux
orchestrated by governments and other
concerned organizations to suppress
and misguide communities. Such
actions may prove detrimental towards
the well-being of not only individuals,
but societies and nations as well.
Using Social Media Judiciously
Social media has become an indispens-
able part of our day-to-day lives. We
depend on the same for information,
education, and entertainment. Given
the current pandemic situation, people
have been staying indoors and are
using social media more than ever. It is
a known fact that social media has its
fair share of advantages and disadvan-
tages. Hence, it is up to us to use this
platform responsibly to share new and
authentic information, and share
diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up
protocols.
We should keep in mind the fact that
spreading of false information and
rumors is detrimental to individuals
and the society. Fake data, myths, and
pessimist information can lead to grave
outcomes such depression and anxiety
in people, and in some extreme
circumstances, fatal outcomes such as
suicides.
Therefore, it is important for us to play
the role of a responsible citizen and be
very cautious while sharing any
information on the internet. Double
checking the credibility of the informa-
tion that we are about to share will help
in ensuring that we are contributing
towards providing genuine informa-
tion, which will help towards the
greater good of the society and the
nation.

24. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has evidently
redirected the core focus of our lives – our health.
The series of lockdowns have triggered healthy
food and hygiene habits in many. People have become more
conscious about their eating habits preferring homemade
food and fresh local products over ready-to-eat restaurant
meals.
People today needed to hear the red siren going off with
surging cases of COVID-19 taking a toll on their physical
and mental health. However, our ancestors had already
warned us about our unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle
choices. Try to remember this old English proverb, "Don't
dig your grave with your own knife and fork.”
In light of the same, it is noteworthy how Father of the
Nation, late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nayhan, went
further to ensure the health of the generations to come by
founding Al Ain Farms in 1981.
Gaining popularity as the first dairy company in the UAE,
four decades later, Al Ain Farms, under the leadership of
CEO Willem van Walt Meijer, is set to pioneer strong
food safety norms in the country.
Read the following interview to know the history of Al Ain
Farms, how by adopting innovation the company is thriving
in the food sector and how it strived during the pandemic
ensuring the well-being of its employees, partners, as well
as animals.
Please brief our audience about Al Ain Farms, its values,
and how the company has been positioned as a leading
player in the dairy, and food & beverages space.
Founded in 1981 by the Father of the Nation, late Sheikh
Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nayhan, Al Ain Farms was the first
dairy company in the UAE to start dairy operations and
provide fresh milk to the nation. Continuing the heritage for
over 40 years, Al Ain Farms has grown to be the largest
integrated local dairy company in the UAE, running four
farms under its brand – the dairy business, the juice
business, the camel milk production, and the poultry section
with fresh chicken and eggs.

25. About the leader
Willem Van Walt Meijer, Chief
Executive Officer of Al Ain Farms is a
Dutch national. Following several
positions in Marketing and Sales at
Unilever in the Netherlands, Willem and
his family lived in Indonesia, Ireland,
and Russia where he held a series of
director positions in Unilever operating
companies.
After 21 years of working in the world
of Unilever, Willem headed to take on
new challenges. He stepped in as CEO
of the Greenery, a co-operative of
fresh produce growers. Later he
headed the Classic Dairy and Cheese
division of Friesland Foods, a co-
operative of dairy farmers.
Willem also served as the CEO of
MidOceanBrands and was a member
of the board at Polyconcept Ltd (US),
from which he became Hong Kong-
based Managing Director of the
company's international division.
In 2016, he returned to the food industry as Managing Director of Nedspice
Vietnam.
In early 2020, with his expertise and rich experience in the food industry, Willem
stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer of Al Ain Farms. Since then, he
has been leading Al Ain Farms on its journey towards becoming a major player in
the UAE food industry, guided by the UAE leadership's strategic initiatives to
ensure the food security of the country.
Willem works hand in hand with the management team, which consists of the
representatives from all business divisions of dairy and poultry, brand
development and concept innovation, sales and logistics, and support functions.

26. All products are produced in Al Ain, the heart of the UAE,
and delivered to different regions, serving more than 12,000
outlets nationwide. The farm has been delivering over 20
million units of fresh dairy and poultry products monthly
across the United Arab Emirates. The company has always
had and will continue to have a pivotal role in enabling
food security in the country.
What are your company's distinct offerings, and how
have these products ascertained your stronghold within
the UAE dairy sector?
The core competencies of the company lie in the strong
brand reputation achieved across decades of operations in
the country, further enchased with the availability of the
products across all regions. The reach and coverage in UAE
are sometimes difficult to achieve as the cold chain in dairy
must not be interrupted at any time, and the fleet of over
250 vehicles and thousand people work hard so fresh
products are delivered 24/7 to more than 12, 000 outlets
daily.
The proximity of the farms to the factory being in the same
site compound enables us to ensure a promise of farms
delivering within 24 hours from farm to customer, ensuring
the fresh, tasty, safe, wholesome and healthy food.
Amongst many products, the company's core product is
fresh milk available in multiple fat levels options and
several package sizes. Al Ain Farms also produces a
significant volume of long-life milk packed in paper
cartons, enabling fresh milk to be preserved longer, without
the addition of any preservatives.
Quite a large consumption category of fermented products,
consisting of laban (drinkable yoghurt) and thick yoghurt. It
is beneficial for both good digestion and improving
immunity, by having an addition of the probiotic strains,
LGG, and BB12 which work in parallel to support and
boost consumers' health.
The company also provides no added sugar fresh juice in
thirteen different flavors for everyone's taste. Living in a hot
and humid climate, fresh juice is an ideal refreshment and
energy recovery, especially during the summer season.
Al Ain Farms is the only food company to nurture both the
cows and camels at its farms. Al Ain Farms takes special
pride in offering the Camel Milk, both locally and
internationally in fresh and powder variants.
Apart from dairy products and fresh juices, Al Ain farms
have also established themselves in the poultry sector. Over
7 million chickens and 120 million eggs are produced
annually in Al Ain Farms and delivered to households

hormones, meat is produced in a whole chicken and other
varieties such as Lean Fillet, Drumsticks, and multiple pack
options. Eggs come in different sizes of small, medium, and
large, and are a tasty and nutritional source of protein in
daily diet.
Being an experienced leader, share with us your opinion
on how the adoption of modern technologies has
transformed the dairy industry and what more could be
expected in the near future?
As the UAE climate is too hot and harsh for cows, which
would result in reduced yield and not good for animal well-
being, the company created an air-conditioning system.
However, the cooling system uses a substantial amount of
water and electricity. To reduce its ecological footprint, the
firm recycles the water used in its production to irrigate the
land. As a part of the circular economy, the farms recycle
close to half a billion gallons of water annually. With the
new farm expansion, the company plans to drive this to
more than a billion gallons of water recycled annually for
irrigation.
Animal welfare is our utmost priority, and we have spared
no efforts to protect and nurture our animals, by providing
stress-free environmental conditions, nutritious and highest
quality foods, and regular veterinary care. We value our
animals as an integral part of our being, as a man can exist
only in synergy with nature.
Taking into consideration, the current pandemic, and its
impact on global economies, how are you driving your
company to sustain operations and ensuring the safety
of your employees at the same time?
Al Ain Farms has continued to operate seamlessly during
these challenging times, increasing its capacity to produce
locally made, fresh products delivered daily across the
UAE. The core functions of farming, production, and sales
remained operational 24 hours throughout the year during
the pandemic to ensure continuity of supply. We have
tirelessly undertaken all the necessary measures to prevent
any HSE breaches at our farms. Daily checks are
conducted, and all employees remain safe and healthy.
Our operational readiness and crisis protocol were key in
safeguarding the health of our employees and business
continuity. It was a learning, but responsive and quick
implementation, such as the opening of Al Ain Farms' Care
Centre in Sharjah for quarantine and medical security, and
rehousing of 600 employees, meant that we were able to
continue business as usual.
We implemented a hard zone site where no one could enter
from outside to ensure full biosecurity. Admittance to the
site is only granted after a negative test result was issued
and a one-week quarantine completed. Rigorous testing and
a phased approach to working from home undoubtedly were
key in preserving the welfare of our employees.
Safeguarding our partners and suppliers was also a key
priority for us and we implemented a protocol with
immediate effect, securing minimum impact along the
supply chain.
Recently we have voluntarily vaccinated all our staff with a
newly developed vaccine for Covid response, as the
company's utmost priority is the health, safety, and well-
being of its employees, biosecurity of the animal livestock,
and quality of products and operations.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the dairy tech space?
Venture into something where demand exists, but supply is
lacking, or where you think the existing system can be
improved. The big current market is nice to know, but it is
not interesting if you bring the same. Fast experimentation
to scrutinize at low risk and low cost your product and
business system should always work. In the food industry,
habits change relatively slow due to being engrained into a
culture, so planning for low pace scenario is needed, so we
could be investing in growth.
Finally, for all that is we should be coming with novel ideas
of concepts and technology often found far from the place
of core operations. The reason is that differentiation is
everything, but the potential lies in adapting to the local
needs and operational requirements.
How do you envision scaling your company's operations
and offerings in 2021?
I believe the trend towards greater local production is clear,
not just for reasons of self-sufficiency, but also because of
the economic boost it can provide.
Al Ain Farms continues to stress the availability,
affordability, and outstanding quality of locally made
products. All with a relentless attitude of continuous
improvement in all we do.
We are confident that the continued support we receive
from the government on the farming part will further
enhance the scale of the local output and ensure a fair level
playing field for all local manufacturers within our sectors.
We also aim to work more closely with our retail partners to
customize shelves and packaging to communicate the
benefits of locally made products for consumers.

28. easeless growth and unfathomable success along
Cwith year-on-year progress of its employees and
associated communities is what any company
envisions. The company's mission is what defines its
operations, and the value it provides to customers is what
defines its stronghold in any niche market.
One company that has manifested into an evident
illustration of the aforementioned aspects is Anchor Allied
Factory Ltd. (AAFL)
From a single unit manufacturing BOPP Packing tapes in
1995, AAFL has diversified its portfolio to become one of
the largest manufacturers with ASMACO being the
preferred brand for Sealants, spray, and other allied
products in the whole of Middle East.
The company has established its presence in the Middle
East, Far East, South East Asia, Africa, the CIS countries,
Latin & South America and Europe by entering into
partnerships with the best companies in these regions. This
rapid development in transnational cooperation is the
epitome of AAFL's growth.
In the last decade, AAFL established its strength through
various products that were launched, ranging from Silicone
Sealants, Weather Sealants, Spray Paints, Insect Killer and
other allied products, creating a benchmark for others to
follow.
"While expanding our international collaborations, AAFL
never compromised on its bottom line of 'novelty' and
opened a wider path of transnational cooperation in such
flexible ways as joint technical investment, strategic
cooperation, and international supply chain," says Mr
Ahmedali Husain Nalwala, the Co-founder, CEO and
Managing Director at AAFL.
In the following interview, Mr Ahmedali sheds light on the
company's vision and how it has managed to sustain its
prolific competency in international markets.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
What makes your company a preferred choice over your
competitors?
At AAFL, we strongly believe that "Excellence is a
journey". Our journey follows the path that collaborates
with the industry's trend as well as our customers. Through
continuous interactions, we collaborate to identify our
Customer's specific needs. Thereafter, we facilitate
improvisation and innovation and always strive to obtain
the "First-mover advantage" apart from customer-delight.
Many of our products in the range of sealants, adhesives
and aerosols are a manifestation of these principles.
Being in a leadership position, what is your opinion on
the impact of the current pandemic on the
manufacturing industry and the related market within
which you conduct business?
The impact of Covid-19 was a business-health-reality check
for most of the industry players. Any pandemic can be
conquered with a good immunity created by any business.
The impact of Covid 19 was felt within certain sub-sectors
in the manufacturing industry. These were more from
operational restrictions coupled with a cash flow crunch.
We quickly embarked on a transitional policy to support our
customers and help them to recover from the impact.
Further, with our innovative strategy, we could launch our
new range of sanitizers and disinfectants, thereby
introducing them to our business partners. This ensured,
they rebooted amidst the "new-normal", apart from
reassuring us of a mutually enduring business association.
In your opinion, what could be the future of the
manufacturing industry post the COVID-19 pandemic?
Covid 19 pandemic, has only reinforced the time-tested
Darwin's theory viz., "Survival of the fittest". The past year
has changed the fate of many businesses. The future
belongs to those who continue to be strong and for those
who have un-learnt, re-learnt, and adopted themselves to
the changing times.

In your opinion, what could be the
future of the manufacturing industry
post the Covid-19 pandemic?
Post Covid-19 pandemic, we expect
the economy to return to normalcy mid
2021 as the business outlook
reassuring. Also, most of the industries
are back in action, which in turn could
bring back volume. With invent of
Vaccine, tourism industry is likely to
bounce back very soon. Also, schools,
educational institutions, banks,
government services are back into
operation from first quarter 2021.
As an established business leader,
what would be your advice to the
budding entrepreneurs aspiring to
the venture into the manufacturing
industry?
As a manufacturer our advice to those
who are interested to startup their own
new manufacturing industry is that it is
worth of setting up new manufacturing
industry. Since the Cosmetics industry
is worth to 10 billion for GCC market
and it is growing at the rate of 15%
year after year. There is demand in the
market for new manufacturer,
considering the high quality and
service to meet the market demand. To
enter the market, we need to believe in
ourselves. We need to have a vision
and find good employees. Challenge
yourself and Believe that you can
succeed, you will find ways through
different obstacles and achieve the
goal.
How do you envision on sustaining
your company’s competency in this
ever-cutthroat business ecosystem?

the next five years?
As a manufacturer we foresee tough
competition in the market. We will be
able to sustain our growth as believe in
and follow Creativity, Innovation,
Technology, and Teamwork to improve
efficiencies, benchmark, and upgrade
practices within the organization for
the benefit of our customers. We expect
at least 15 to 20% growth year on year

simple products and quick services.
The value they are looking for comes
from experiencing the use of a product

38. UNRAVELING
ANDTHE MEDIUM
OF NFT
In today’s digitally connected
world, digital art and collections
can be sold virtually. These can be
purchased through the use of non-
fungible tokens (NFTs). With the
advent of blockchain, the digital art
and collectibles market has started to
explode. NFTs help creators and
investors to sell and buy exclusive
digital objects ranging from 3D videos,
songs, pictures, and so on. Let us delve
a little deep into NFTs and learn more
about them.
Defining an NFT
NFTs are digital collectibles which can
be used to make digital transactions.
These transactions get marked down
on the blockchain. This can be applied
to pretty much every digital work. For
example, artists who make songs,
videos, photographs, and 3D
renderings, can sell a number of
official versions of their production to
people who want to buy them.
The purchasers receive ownership of
the digital version of the product on the
blockchain record, which is public and
cannot be edited through unofficial
channels. They can eventually sell their
ownership to someone else in
exchange of a payment in any currency
of their choice.
However, if a person purchases an
NFT, it does not mean that only they
can see it. Someone else can easily go
online, find the media included in the
NFT the other person had bought, and
download it. Although as per the
blockchain register, a person is still the
owner of a certain digital content,
anyone else can see or watch that
media. However, only owners can sell
their position on it.
For example, a football association can
select the highlights of the matches of
top players and offer NFTs of them in
limited releases. Sports fanatics can
buy ‘NFT packs’ of randomized
highlights in the form of tokens. Some
associations offer a certain number of
each token, while offering special
edition versions of token in auction
sale.
Hence, a customer may receive an NFT
of the best goal video of their favorite
player, while someone else might be
lucky to get a token which is
considered as the holographic version
of the same goal. NFTs can be
considered as trading cards in the
online world.
What are the Advantages of Buying
a Digital Collectible?
Physical objects have a variety of
challenges. For example, for an artist,
it is quite expensive to ship out their
work, while there are also risks of the
work getting lost or destroyed along
the way. The same can be said for
collectibles. However, digitizing the
collectibles changes the game entirely.
36 | March 2021 | www.insightssuccess.com
39. Digital collectibles are easier to handle
and store. You cannot lose it as long as
you do not lose access to your account
information.
Furthermore, digital collectibles are
live on the blockchain and there is
physical object. Hence, this rules out
the possibility of counterfeiting art or
any other collectible.
The Worth of NFTs
Currently, there is tremendous cash
flow in the NFT world, just like
confetti floating in the air during any
grand celebration. A renowned digital
artist recently created an NFT of a
collage he created which he sold for
$6.6 million. The top football players
can sell their NFTs for tens of
thousands of dollars each.
Purchasing and Selling NFTs
Carrying out NFT transactions is easier
said than done. In order to buy NFTs,
individuals will have to visit online
marketplaces such Nifty Gateway,
SuperRare, OpenSea, and so on.
Although there are varieties of options
out there, the field is still expanding
gradually. There are some
marketplaces, which specialize in
digital art, while there are many music-
centric platforms as well.
There are many marketplaces which
allow artists to create NFTs through
their platforms, however in order to
purchase and sell through larger
players, individuals must apply to
become partners.
The Disadvantages of NFTs
Just like every other product or
technology, NFT has its own set of
downsides. Many major NFT platforms
use the Ethereum blockchain, which
leads to the consumption of
tremendous amount of energy.
Ethereum does not get too far into the
crypto weeds and uses a digital mining
process similar to that of a bitcoin to
maintain its records. Furthermore,
computers help in solving
tremendously complex mathematical
problems to verify transactions.
Ethereum is capable of handling
transactions outside its own
blockchain. As such, it is more flexible
than something like a bitcoin.
However, on the downside, Ethereum
consumes huge amounts of energy
because it requires tremendous
computing power to process each
transaction.
In spite of its few disadvantages, NFTs
provide tremendous scope in terms of
digital transactions and purchasing and
selling of collectibles.

UAE’s Best Manufacturing Companies 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has
levied a significant number of
challenges on industries across
the world. Pertaining to the pandemic
induced lockdowns and other
restrictions, companies across the
spectrum of food manufacturing—as
evidently stated essential—were
compelled to reiterate their operational
standards and processes.
The pandemic has also indirectly
sparked empowerment within certain
companies leading them to exhibit
their optimum potential in contributing
to global economic recovery.
One significant name among such
companies is, United Foods Company

beverages manufacturer with 40+ years
of undisputed prominence and
reputation.
In the following interview, Mr Fethi

also his opinions ono the current and
future landscapes of the industry.
Below are the highlights of the

your vision.
United Foods Company PJSC, founded
in 1976, is a leading food company in
the GCC. And it is one of the first
companies to get listed on Dubai stock
exchange. It is the GCC pioneering
manufacturer, marketer and exporter of
branded Ghee, Edible Oils, Butter and
Margarine with an expanding

United Foods owns a cutting-edge

We work very hard to bring in more

Our company’s vision is to be a

Aseel is our Flagship brand and the
leading Ghee brand in the UAE, GCC
and Europe. Aseel enjoys over 75% of
market shares, due to its outstanding
quality.
Being in a leadership position, what
is your opinion on the impact of the
current pandemic on the
manufacturing industry and the
related market within which you
conduct business?
The Covid 19 pandemic is undoubtedly
changing the world as we knew it. It is
changing everything in the life of
everyone and every business. We at
United Foods Company have been fast
to FIRST insulate our workers in
urgent and high-cost fashion. We
believe that only healthy workers can
guarantee the production of healthy
goods, for our consumers, threatened
by this pandemic. We also tackled very
fast our strategic issues of procurement
and delivery. We made sure we have
high strategic stocks and committed to
the market players all their requested
volumes. We also launched our E-
commerce platform to help our
customers and consumers order from
their IT tools and get served.
In your opinion, what could be the
future of the manufacturing industry
post the COVID-19 pandemic?
Sincerely, we have mixed opinions
regarding this prospect. Without any
shadow of a doubt, our consumers and
their health are our guiding priority. If
it is true that this kind of pandemic is
here to stay, then we shall need to
adopt more automations, where we use
less workers and more robots. And
where we shall need to train more our
workers so they can add more quality
related values.
As an established busines leader,
what would be your advice to the
budding entrepreneurs aspiring to
venture into the manufacturing
industry?
My main advice for the young
entrepreneurs is that they do their
market research well, look for gaps in
the market, check latest technologies
and understand the consumers. Once
they have those elements then starting
a manufacturing operation will be
made easier. It goes without saying that
the first ingredient for their success,
will be their level of passion for what
they want to do.
How do you envision on sustaining
your company’s competency in this
ever-cutthroat business ecosystem?
Where do you see your company in
the next five years?
United Foods Company is celebrating
its 45 years this year. In this period of
time, UFC moved from being just a
ghee producer and exporter, to a more
general food producer and distributor,
mainly in the Local market. Our
objectives for the 5 years to come, is to
further strengthen our role in the UAE
by producing and marketing a wider
range of food products. We do not
imagine growing only organically. We
are preparing for a major acceleration.
