Planned Parenthood

o What are the services provided?
o What are the social implications of this community
  resource?
o Who benefits from these services? Who does it hurt?
o What can be done about the problems created by this
  organization (if any)?
What does Planned Parenthood Do?
Planned Parenthood is a reproductive health care
organization that is committed to offering high quality care
to local communities. They operate nearly 800 health care
centers across the nation, and are also advocates of foreign
policy that supports underprivileged countries being
afforded quality reproductive care.

However, it has been a very controversial organization for
it’s abortion services.

Conclusion

Planned parenthood is more to the community than a place
to get an abortion. This organization provides many
necessary and vital services to local members of the
community who may not otherwise be able to afford
preventative services. What we need to do is educate
people about Planned Parenthood and equip our citizens
with the correct information so that they can make better
and more informed decisions for their families.

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. John Kyle- Arizona R- made statements that abortion was 90% of what Planned Parenthood does. The actual number is closer to three percent. Indiana- There is already a law in place prohibiting the use of Medicaid for abortions, but this makes it more difficult for low income women to receive prenatal care and other services needed just because PP is an abortion provider. Another important service that has an impact on the community is testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections, to include HIV testing.
  2. Planned Parenthood provides a very important educational role in the community. Regardless of the social issue is, they advertise themselves as an educational resource for parents, teens, concerned citizens, etc.
