  • 5. 5 Why  use  mobile  learning  in  onboarding?   •  Onboarding  is  a  universal  issue  for  all  organizaHons     •  In  lieu  of  on-­‐going  recruitments,  acquisiHons  and  millennial   penetraHon  at  workplaces,  L&D  teams  are  striving  to  accommodate   tradiHonal  on-­‐boarding  processes   •  New  generaHon  of  constantly  mobile  connected  learners,  with  the   need  to  make  new  employees  feel  welcomed  and  valued   •  In  this  context,  mobile  seems  to  be  a  logical  soluHon  to  meet  the   onboarding  needs  to  reach  every  type  of  learner

  2. Who has their mobile device with them right now? Does it ever leave your side? New employees are used to having instant access to the Internet and the web
  3. Different organizations will have different needs – our needs might not be the same as yours
  4. We did not want to replace the onboarding process. We just wanted to supplement it and make it more accessible. It’s just that onboarding event, the new employee orientation is an information dump Way to easily access information What that we have answers four fundamental questions
  5. Lingo – how do new employees learn unique terms and vocabulary for their new workplace quickly, specific to the industry and company? Culture – how do they learn about the company culture and its vision and values? Resources – information dump – giving easy access to resources on the go? Integration – How do they ask the right questions to become deeply integrated into their teams?

Find your key areas to initially focus on and prototype Get buy-in from stakeholders and prototype some ideas Example: Liaised heavily with Qualcomm Staffing team and got management support for the initiatives Start small – don’t try to tackle everything in one big app Multiple targeted apps might be better than one big app Example: Started with New2Q app and QMaps Spread the word Go to your users and tell them about your initiatives – is there an event that you can demonstrate your apps to new employees? Example: Going to new employee events in San Diego and showing apps on iPads Example: Taking iPads to the company cafeterias and taking a few minutes to show apps Capture analytics Is there a region or group that you can better target in your initiatives? Example: India/China engineers Encourage and promote feedback Encourage users to provide feedback in their own time and then act on it Example: New QC Lingo decks with user-generated content Example: Updates to New2Q with region-specific content
