Practices
That Can
Make You
Super
Productive!
LAUNCHYOURGENIUS.COM
“Productivity is never an
accident. It is always the
result of a commitment to
excellence, intelligent
planning, and focused
effort.” – Paul J. Meyer
What are some ways to be
SUPER
productive?
#1. Make a List Of Three
To Five Things To
Complete The Next Day
!
!
Move on through
the list to get a
great boost of
accomplishment.
TAKE THE GUESS WORK
OUT OF YOUR LIST-MAKE
A SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE LIST
“To think too long about doing a thing
often becomes its undoing.”– Eva Young
Our CONSCIOUS minds cannot process more than
60 to 100 bits of information per second.
AVOID OVERWHELM OF LONG LISTS
ACTION
IS THE FOUNDATIONAL
KEY
TO
ALL
SUCCESS.
-PABLO PICASSO
#2. Manage Your Energy, Not
Just Time
“Manage your energy, not your time.”-Tony Schwartz
“If you don’t pay
appropriate attention to
what has your attention,
it will take more of your
attention than it deserves.”–
David Allen
Figure out your energy
level blueprint and how
to manage your ENERGY

Morning or evening person?
Where is your energy high?
When is your energy high?

HYDRATION
AND EXERCISE…
Steer clear of
energy
vampires and
energy
drainers
Energy and
persistence
!conquer all things.” –
Benjamin Franklin
#3. Chunking Your Tasks
Together
“The most efficient way
to produce anything is to
bring together under one
management as many as
possible of the activities
needed to turn out the
product.” – Peter Drucker
CHUNKING=
GROUPING COMMON ITEMS= Focus and
alignment towards a common goal and
outcome.
#4. Chunking Time: Cut Off
distractions By focusing On One Task
“If you spend too much time thinking about a
thing, you’ll never get it done.”― Bruce Lee
One way to super charge your
productivity is to divide your day into
chunks of time for specific tasks.
45 MINUTE CHUNK
+ BREAK
45 MINUTE CHUNK
= GREAT
Research has shown
Attention depreciates after 40 to 45 minutes of concentration
= ATTENTION DECREMENT
Research has shown
To keep attention UP = take a short
break after 45 minutes
#5. Eat That Frog First
“You cannot eat every tadpole and frog in the pond, but you
can eat the biggest and ugliest one, and that will be
enough, at least for the time being.”― Brian Tracy, Eat That Frog
“Eat a live frog first thing
in the morning and
nothing worse will
happen to you the rest of
the day.”-Mark Twain
= MOST DIFFICULT TASK
This strategy is from Brian Tracy and is based on Mark Twain’s quote
#6. Have A HOPE (Hour Of
Power Everyday) Practice
“It’s not knowing what to do, it’s doing what you know.” – Tony Robbins
My custom HOUR OF POWER:
Affirmations
Yoga and Pilates
Gratitude Exercise
Meditation
DESIGN YOUR OWN HOPE BASED ON WHAT YOU
NEED AND WHAT YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER
ADVISES YOU!
I learnt about HOUR OF POWER practice from Tony Robbins.

#7. Schedule Social Media and
E-mail and Minimize Distractions
“Concentrate all your thoughts
upon the work in hand. The
Sun’s rays do not burn until
brought to a focus”― Alexander
Graham Bell
#8. The 2-minute Rule
!
Tip from David Allen of GTD: IF YOU CAN GET
AN ACTION DONE IN 2 MINUTES= DO IT
!
“I have a two-minute rule that says: If you
determine an action can be done in two
minutes, you actually should do it right then
because it’ll take longer to organize it and
review it than it would be to actually finish it
the first time you notice it. If you don’t avoid
the question about what’s the next step, lots
of two minute items could be done right
then.”
David Allen, interview to Success magazine.
#9. Declutter And Organize: Put
Everything Back In Its Designated
Space
Three Rules of Work:
Out of clutter find simplicity;
From discord find harmony;
In the middle of difficulty opportunity.
lies – Albert Einstein
A good system of organization is vital
for productivity and creativity.
Is clutter
interfering with your
PRODUCTIVITY?
#10. Have Shorter Meetings Or
Scheduling A Walking Meeting
SHORTER MEETINGS <30 MIN
SMALLER GROUP, MORE FOCUS
What di d ge t me moving was a s o c ial
interaction. Someone invited me to a meeting, but
couldn’t manage to fit me in to a regular sort of
conference room meeting, and said, ‘I have to walk
my dogs tomorrow. Could you come then?’ It
seemed kind of odd to do, and actually, that first
meeting, I remember thinking,’I have to be the one
to ask the next question,’ because I knew I was
g o i n g t o h u f f a n d p u f f d u r i n g t h i s
conversation. And yet, I’ve taken that idea and
made it my own. So instead of going to coffee
meetings or fluorescent-lit conference room
meetings, I ask people to go on a walking
meeting, to the tune of 20 to 30 miles a week. It’s
changed my life.”- Nilofer Merchant, TED talk, Got
a Meeting, Take a walk.
STICK WITH THE AGENDA
CLUMP YOUR MEETINGS TOGETHER
Have an unconventional
meeting like a walking or a
workout meeting.
Walking meeting tip from Nilofer Merchant, TED talk, Got a Meeting, Take a walk
#11. Prioritize Your Tasks And
Schedule Them In
“ T h e k e y i s n o t t o
prioritize what’s on your
schedule, but to schedule
y o u r p r i o r i t i e s . ” –
Stephen Covey
Having a weighted, and priority based system is a
wonderful way to be super-productive and get a lot
accomplished.
!
A simple priority system is to divide
actions and tasks based on when
you need to do them.
TASKS NOW
TASKS TODAY
TASKS THIS WEEK
#12. Say No To Overscheduling
!and Delegate
“If you commit to
giving more time than
you have to spend, you
will constantly be
running from time debt
collectors.”
-Elizabeth Grace Saunders
DO YOU WANT
TO DO IT ALL
YOURSELF?
DO YOU SAY
YES TO PLEASE
OTHERS?
PRODUCTIVITY PICKLE:
TAKING ON TOO MUCH
+
TOO LITTLE TIME
+
UNREALISTIC
ASSESSMENT
DO NOT SWEAT IT BY GETTING INTO THE PICKLE!
Being realistic about
your time will save you
much trouble in the
future.
!
Develop the art of effective DELEGATION
!
Match the task with the skill set of
individuals and then do not hesitate
to delegate.
Saying “no” to the ever
piling list of tasks is not
only productivity savvy
but also essential for
your sanity.
#13. Use Technology To Be
MORE PRODUCTIVE
“Any sufficiently
advanced technology is
equivalent to magic.”
–Sir Arthur C. Clarke
I use notifications to keep me on
track with my projects.
I use timers to set a quick timer and get going
on the task.
I use note and idea capturing tools to
capture and make sketches of ideas that I receive.
#14. Sleep More, Take
Naps And Stay Hydrated
“Rest and be thankful.”
William Wordsworth
One of the secrets of great
productivity is getting
enough sleep
to make you last through the day
without fatigue and burnout.
Taking a small power nap during the day is also highly effective.
#15. Do Things Less Perfectly
!
Perfectionism can wreak
havoc on your productivity.
Are you the person most difficult to please?
“The perfect is the enemy of the good.” – Voltaire
You may keep improving a project but in
reality, you need to get quick feedback to
assess if the work is nearing completion.
!
A quick way to snap out of perfectionism:
!
1. Become clear about the
expectations
!
2. Receive feedback
!
3. Set a deadline and stick to it.
#16. Work Environment Matters
!
“We need space to be productive, we need
places to go to be free.” – Laure Lacornette
!
Companies like Google, Pixar
and IDEO show us that
environment matters for
making productivity fun and
engaging.
Ask yourself if your environment is facilitating productivity or if it is blocking it?
!
#17. Use The Pareto Principle
!
The Pareto principle says that 80% of your work
results come from 20% of your work effort.
WHERE DO YOUR BEST
RESULTS COME FROM?
!
WHAT DO
YOU DO
YOUR BEST
WORK IN?
Delegate the REST
#18. Become Intentional With
Your Time And Your Work
!
“It is only when we truly know and understand that we have
a limited time on earth – and that we have no way of
knowing when our time is up – that we will begin to live
each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.”–
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
You can become intentional by:
Giving up multitasking for unitasking.
!
Taking up the tasks and work that you enjoy most.
!
Being grateful for the little victories and accomplishments.
!
Developing a Kaizen or continuous improvement mindset.
!
Taking small but consistent steps.
!
Letting go of analysis paralysis and taking action.
!
Doing less and not more.
!
“My goal is no longer to get more done, but
rather to have less to do.” – Francine Jay
#19. Script The Critical Moves
“Ambiguity is the enemy. Any successful change requires a
translation of ambiguous goals into concrete behaviors. In short,
to make a switch, you need to script the critical moves.”-Dan and
Chip Heath, Switch.
!
The idea is that you need a clear and easy to implement action plan.
!
The plan should script the critical moves in a manner that avoids confusion and overwhelm.
AMBIGUITY OR LACK OF CLARITY
TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP
FORWARD=
RESISTANCE TO CHANGE
Do you lack key information
on how to implement?
Dilemma of information overload and lack of forward progress!
Example from Dan and Chip Heath from their book, Switch.
The food pyramid gives
such a wide array of
ambiguous choices that
people get lost in the
details.
!
Instead of one key
behavior that people
should change, the
pyramid gives options
and choices that are
not easy to put in
place.
The authors point out that telling people to switch to 1% milk in a West
Virginia community was more effective than telling them to “eat
healthy.”
#20. Setting Up Structures
And Habits That Work For You
!
!
“Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is
empty without it.” – Stephen Hawking
MOTIVATION
IS WHAT
GETS YOU
STARTED.
HABIT IS WHAT
KEEPS
YOU GOING.
-JIM ROHN
Intentional productivity depends on the habits
and structures that you have set up in your life.
Identify the areas that are creating issues for you and
plan ahead and set up structures to simplify them.
Structures and habits should:
Eliminate and automate the unnecessary worry of
bothering with the small details.
!
Focus on your big goals and allow you to make a big
splash in the key areas.
!
Have triggers and cues that motivate you forward
towards joyful and engaged productivity.
Structures and habits should:
!
Have rewards built-in within them to motivate
you.
Make you more relaxed and engaged and not
the opposite.
Address the key “why” and “how” questions.
