1. THE STORY OF DEEP BLUE
When I saw DEEP BLUE for the first time, there was just
one thought in my mind: HOPE. A shark of that size is at
least 50 years old and that tells me protection and
conservation efforts are really working. DEEP BLUE has
been spared from longlines and the inherent dangers of being
in the wild, and somehow she has found her way in the vast
ocean. During November and December, we have seen
several White Shark pregnant females like DEEP BLUE in
Guadalupe Island feeding on seals, satisfying their needs to
feed their pups.
They remain in this protected area for a few months but now
there is a new challenge. This amazingly enormous female is
carrying several little baby White Sharks, just waiting to be
swimming free in the Ocean. When White Sharks are about
to give birth, they get close to the shore and deliver their
pups in shallow areas, known as nursery grounds, which are
full of food and free of predators. Unfortunately, these areas
are close to shore and are very vulnerable to several human
threats and DEEP BLUE, her pups and fellow White Sharks
need your help!
2. NEW BORN
Baby white sharks are
caught in lines and nets in
shallow waters used as
nursery grounds
PREGNANT FEMALES
Pregnant females close to
the shore are an easy target
for gill nets that kill them by
asphyxiation
ILLEGAL TRADE
The very high value of
White Shark teeth, jaws
and fins mean that bycatch
of this species is
very likely

3. WHO WE ARE: PELAGIOS KAKUNJA
Pelagios-Kakunjá is a non-profit organization that seeks to understand
movements and migratory patterns of marine top predators. We aim to
generate baseline information for the regional management and
implementation of conservation strategies for sharks and other top
marine predators in the Mexican Pacific. Our main goal in Guadalupe
Island is to tag the pregnant White Shark females and determine the
nursery grounds there are being used near shore in order to give the
Mexican Government the tools to protect them.
Your donations to help save the White Sharks are tax deductible in the
United States, Mexico, and other countries. If you are willing to helps
us to protect these majestic animals in the DEEP BLUE OCEAN please
