Building Dashboards
You can set up indicators to access Address Book
information in the following ways:
• Saved searches – You can link indicators with existing
searches in the search catalog.
• SQL metrics – Your administrator can set up SQL
queries that report on any information in your Address
Book.
• Filters – You can specify filters for activities and quotas
and return information on the entries that match the
filters.

Simple Easy Access
• Accessibility is critical – reliable and easy access
to specific metrics
• Is the data visible to everyone that needs it –
different access rights
• Avoid duplication of multiple dashboards
measuring the same thing

Mistake: Starting with the Complex
• Overly ambitious dashboards which attempt to
capture every business challenge
• Spending months trying to get the ideal series of
dashboards completed
• Losing the needle in a haystack of data

Keep it Accurate
• Can you ensure accuracy? Dashboards quickly
become fact.
• Can the metric be measured somewhere else?
• How often does it need to be refreshed?
• What is optimal within Maximizer?

Choose Metrics that Matter
• Does the metric connect to a specific objective?
• Does the metric actually reflect contribution or
behavior which supports an objective?
• Can it be a systematic and on-going
measurement?

Mistake: No One ‘Gets’ the Metrics
• Easily understood to you, might not translate to
the organization
• Disconnect between company KPI and real life
• Metrics ask to much of the data
• A business intelligence (BI) question in a dashboard
package

Keep it Visual
• Fast and easy to read – a picture is worth a
thousand questions
• Easily consumed „chunks‟ of visual data –
support visual perception
• Pass the quick eyeball test – do the components
tell a clear story

Mistake: Dashboard Clutter
• Showing flashy visuals that actually hurt
comprehension
• Keep 3-D visuals at the movies
• Stuffing as many indicators as possible onto one
screen
• Trying to show to much data
• The never ending pie chart

Make it Actionable
• Drilldown on indicators to view results and take
action
• Visual alerts to flag actionable tasks or crucial
activities
• Support standard KPI‟s with „action‟ dashboards
for individuals

Mistake: Not Keeping it Current
• Ignoring the resources involved in maintaining
dashboards
• Not prioritizing the update and reviewing metrics
• Are they still relevant and impactful?
• Avoid stale dashboard syndrome
• Kills engagement and company buy in

executives and ownership

objectives and take action
remotely

Notes de l'éditeur You can set up indicators to access Address Book information in the following ways:• Saved searches – You can link indicators with existing searches in the search catalog. The indicator reports either the number of entries returned in the search or a calculation based on fields in the entries.• SQL metrics – Your administrator can set up SQL queries that report on any information in your Address Book. While they are defined in Administrator, you can add any of these metrics to your dashboard indicators in Maximizer.• Filters – You can specify filters for activities and quotas and return information on the entries that match the filters. You can filter information by date, assigned users or teams, and values of specific fields in appointments and tasks. Remedy: Start small and make your first iterations easy to adapt.
