4.7 Raw Materials Inspection Section :
In this section raw materials such as fabric, accessories, trimmings are inspected according
to the requirement of the buyer by following fabric inspection method and raw materials
inspection method .
4.7.1 Fabric Inspection Section :
To find out the defects or faults in a fabric lot fabric inspection are done. Different types
of methods are used to identify the defects of fabric.
Some methods and tests are given below:
4 point system fabric inspection (10%)
Twisting Test
Shrinkage test
Segragation
Orginal Color Labdip
GSM test
46. Industrial Training Report on TRZ Garments Industry Ltd. 29
4.7.1.1 Four Point System Fabric Inspection (10%):
Four point system, is a standardized test method for fabric visually inspecting and grading.
Four-point system is widest acceptance in fabric inspection due to its practical, impartial
and worldwide recognized.
The four-point system derives its name from the basic grading rule that a maximum of four
penalty points can be assessed for any single defect and that no linear meter can be assigned
more than four points regardless of the number of defects within that piece.
To use this system below things should be in concern.
Fabric preparation
Identify the defects or faults
Criteria for giving penalty points
Point calculation
Point calculation for individual rolls
Check sheet or inspection format
Types of defects found in fabric.
Fabric Preparation :
10% of fabrics roll are selected randomly from fabric rolls. Then they are separated and
brought near the fabric inspection machine for inspection. If it is failed, 15% will be carried
out. If it fails again, 100% will go under fabric inspection system.
Identify The Defects or Faults:
Normally fabric is inspected under good light condition by using fabric inspection machine.
When a defect is observed during inspection then defects must be marked with sticker at
the location of defect on with a marker (sticker, swift tack etc). To ensure the accurate
width of the fabric during inspection fabric width is measured by using scale or tape.
47. Industrial Training Report on TRZ Garments Industry Ltd. 30
Criteria For Giving Penalty Points :
In the following table the penalty evaluation points has been given for different length of
fabric defect and dimension of holes. According to the length of the defect point should be
given. By using tape, the length of the defect or faults is measured then point is given for
this defect.
Table 4.1 : Criteria For Giving Penalty Points.
SIZE OF DEFECTS PENALTY POINTS

Defects > 3 inches < 6 inches 2
Defects > 6 inches < 9 inches 3
Defects > 9 inches 4
Holes and opening
1 inch or less 2
Over 1 inch 4
Points Calculation :
Once the rolls are inspected, the points per 100 square yards or meter must be calculated
to determine acceptability of the roll.
48. Industrial Training Report on TRZ Garments Industry Ltd. 31
Points Calculation For Individual Roll :
Points / 100 sq. yd. = (Total points in roll *36*100)/ (Inspected fabric length in yards *
fabric width in inches)
Points / 100 sq. meters = (Total points in roll * 100000)/ (Inspected fabric length in meters
* fabric width in mm )
TRZ Garments industry Ltd follow some acceptable range to accept or reject the fabric
rolls according to the method and buyers choice.
That varies from fabric to fabric such as woven or knit and also varies according to the
characteristics of the fabric.

Example: A fabric roll 150 yards long and 56" wide contains following defects.
6 defects up to 3" length 6×1 = 6 points
4 defects from 3" to 6" length 4×2 = 8 points
2 defects from 6" to 9" length 2×3 = 6 points
1 defects over 9" length 1×4 = 4 points
1 hole over 1" 1×4 = 4 points
Total defects points 28 points

4.7.1.3 Shrinkage Test:
10% fabric of total fabric undergoes shrinkage test. 60cm×60cm from each roll is cut at
first. The sample which is taken for shrinkage test is spread on table. Then a template of
50cm×50cm is put on sample fabric which is square size. Then the samples are marked as
50cm×50cm. These samples are then sent for washing. Normal wash is done upon the
fabric at 60°c temp for 90 min. After washing the fabric is taken out & dried. It can be
either be flat dry or tumble dry.
Shrinkage % = (length of fabric before wash-length if fabric after wash)/(length of fabric
after wash)×100 %

where exists the resins or polymer, is placed at the under side of the fabrics of the garments
properly and joined by applying heat and pressure. The polymer layer or resin in the
interlining is melted by heat and the melted polymers entre into the fibers of the fabrics of
the garments and the fabrics of interlining by pressure, and the melted polymers become
hard. When it is cooled and the two fabrics that means, the fabric of the garment and the
fabric of the interlining are bonded perfectly and rigidly.
