• There are well over 1 million apps — and growing — in both the two leading app stores, Google
Play Store and Apple App Store.
• Increase your budget and focus on app marketing across paid, owned and earned channels to
maximise adoption.

SMARTPHONE USERS ARE SPENDING MORE TIME IN FEWER APPS
• 70% of app time is spent in just the top three most frequently used apps (i.e. social
networking, messaging or gaming). Over half of apps lose the majority of their peak
audience within 3 months.
• Optimise your in-app push notification or mobile messaging strategy to improve
retention.

THE MAJORITY OF APPS ARE STILL DISCOVERED VIA APP STORE SEARCH
• As the average smartphone user downloads around 9 apps per month, over 90% of these
app downloads come from an organic search of the app store.
• Optimise your app store page for discoverability and conversion.

THE MAJORITY OF MOBILE AD SPEND IS WITH GOOGLE AND FACEBOOK
• Google and Facebook take over two-thirds (68.5%) of mobile ad spending worldwide. While this
includes mobile search ad spending on Google, it is predominately mobile newsfeed ads in
Facebook.
• Ensure that you are mastering both of these platforms.
