Ans. The list of several micro and small business in the area where I live are mentioned below:
a. 2 small general stores
b. An Electronics shop
c. Shawarma seller
d. A vegetable stall/seller
e. Tandoor shop
These microand small businesses in my area plays a very important role in daily life, because, you
won’tfind any other big store or mall here, neither some market, these are just 2-3 shops in total,
but they play an important role.
As, one can find the small stuff or basic things that are needed in daily life in these small general
stores like candy,chips,biscuits,ice creams etc. orsimple electronicstuff inthe electronicsshop like
cells or cd’s etc.
There isalso a microlevel businessof shawarmaseller,whosellsshawarma’sthatobviouslydoesn’t
match the qualityof the one’sinbigmarketsor bigstores,but still,one canjustcompensate his/her
wish of high standard or quality stuff for it and get the shawarma if needed.
Similarlythe tandoorshop,itcontributesalotinmy view,because hereinthisplace, youwon’t find
any other tandoor shop, recently another one is opened on the other side of the road, but the
importance of anyof the tandooris not decreased,there isalwaysrushonboth of the shops, which
playsquite animportantrole inproviding convenience to the people of this community as one can
easily bring roti’s or chapattis.
Then we have a small stall of vegetable, in which you won’t find a good quality of vegetables and
you doesn’t have a choice of selecting vegetable of your own choice like those in greengrocers of
csd shopor like those in“sabzi mandi”,choice islimited,but the daily use vegetables and fruits are
available there so still if anyone doesn’t need a lot of stuff and can compromise on their choice of
selection and the quality, one can buy it from here.
But, as these microandsmall businesses contribute to the community, it’s very much important to
mentionthat,onone hand theyare contributingtothe community, but on the other hand, they try
to earnextraprofit,and youcan say, people are forcedtobuyproductson higherprices,because as
mentioned above, there are no other markets or shops in the area, so if someone’s doesn’t find
theirproductshere or doesn’twanttobuy thingsonthe prices they are told, then he/she has to go
to eithersadderwhichisquite far,orto “ashnaghari”or “kissakhani”bazar whichare quite far from
here, so it was necessary to mention the negative points as well. As they play a negative role to
some extinct as well.

2. 2. Identify two areas in which micro and small business has contributed a lot?
Ans. According to my observation and from what I have seen in my daily life, I can say that in the
technologyareaand textile area, the micro and small business contributed too much, especially in
the last few years, both the business areas have gained extreme level of expansion.
First,even if you check on local level, there was used to be only gulhaji plaza and bilour plaza, but
now,there are number of big markets, because there is splendid chance of being successful if you
start your own such business, even as a sole proprietor, you can be a successful businessman,
especially because of the loadsheddingproblem, more andmore people are buying laptops, and as
the advancementintechnology,there ishuge demandof suchstuff,astheyare easily available and
are verymuch convenienttouse.If we look few years back, there was hardly anyone interested in
this area of business, but now because of the increase demand and a good level of profitable
earning, we can see that now there are so many of the micro and small businesses in this
technological area of business even in Peshawar, that it’s almost impossible to count the exact
number of businesses on micro and small level.
Second,because of the immense amountof profit with ease, the micro and small level of business
has contributed a lot in the textile area of business as well. They use to bring cloth from china
especially,andthentheysell itforalmost3 timesof the price theybought,soevenif someone with
good sources and good contacts only sells cloths they can earn big profit, that’s why, now a days,
almosteveryone istryingtoinvestinthisareaandtriesto start on the microlevel,with the passage
of time,these microlevel of businessare convertedintosmall andthenintomediumandevenlarge
businesses.Icantell an example of my own friend, whose family, started this business, and took a
shop on rent. With the passage of time, they build up contacts with good importers who used to
importgarmentsforthem,and withinfew years,theyhad enough money to buy that shop, so with
constant effort they started work of tailoring and hired number of people for it, and now they are
the owners of 15-20 shops alone in Peshawar and now they even expanded their business to
Islamabad.Asthere were peoplewhonoticedthisprogressof theirs’, so they also started the same
business, andare quite happywiththeirinvestmentinthis sector. Similarly, there can be hundreds
of other people who might have invested in this business that’s why we can see now a day that
there are many big markets of garments and clothes. So we can say that micro and small level of
business has made a lot of contribution in textile industries.
