from Aspiring Hollywood
By James Goux
"Music can tell stories and I will find a language to tell yours using my
music," proclaims Chris Piorkowski on the home page of his website.
Piorkowski's career in composing, conducting, and producing
began in 1991 at the fresh age of 19 when he worked as a musician and
composer at the "in theater" in West Berlin. Since that time he has
started his own recording studio and continues to work as a composer,
doing writing, arranging, and recording all in-house.
Piorkowski is quick to point to his experience co-producing and arranging the main theme for
the World Cup of Boxing in Helsinki as an exciting opportunity in his writing career. He's also
worked with Gene Roddenberry Productions, with PBS on a show with Fernando Rossi, and
worked in all types of media, including: feature films, documentary, advertising, television,
games, multimedia, and library music. Piorkowski has written and produced songs for many
singer-songwriters and other artists as well. All of the music disciplines and genres are at his
fingertips.

4. Piorkowski accredits his varied opportunities to the one-stop shop setup of his studio. His studio acts as the last stop in the post-
production process, and he can provide services in film composing, orchestration, and production as well as the more technical
aspects of sound such as Foley, ADR, and mixing and mastering. He works within Sound City Studios, a renowned studio that has
hosted the recordings of artists like Elton John, Metallica, Michael Jackson, and the groundbreaking score to the original Planet of
the Apes. This allows a single film to be worked on in four studios at once, with specific rooms each for Foley and ADR. Movement
from one phase to the next is
faster and easier with all
aspects of the sound being
worked on within the same
studio, and Piorkowski has an
entire team of orchestrators
with which he works.
While Chris considers himself
within the category of
upcoming composers, he
feels he is more established
than most who are new to the
game and has built a group of
clients and collaborators with
whom he can trust. He's able
to work with union or non-
union musicians and, unlike
many start up composers, is
able to record live music as
opposed to a mix of samples
and synthesized scoring. He
is able to offer new and
individual sound scores as
well as a full range of genres,
and is always ready to create
a score on short notice. Chris
sends out an open initiation to
his facilities and wants to
make clients of any standing
feel comfortable and confident
in their decision to work with
them, saying, Don't hesitate
to call or e-mail.

From a simple idea to a full CD
Being involved as a composer, arranger
and also working with a lyricist was always
challenging but for the most a very
rewarding experience.
Working with singer-songwriters as a
composer and arranger and guiding them
as well as coaching them during the vocal
recording session contributed to many
successful CD productions as well as their
personal career development.
Today since the CD is less popular
compared to the iTunes music, the main
focus is to create high quality mp3 audio
files and offer them to the public on
internet.
The new digital audio type introduces new
ways of interacting with the listeners today,
offering a faster platform to promote,
advertise and present bands, solo artists,
as well as creating a soundtrack.

Musician
In many years as a musician and composer,
Chris discovered and was involved in
different styles and genres of music that
influenced his compositions and often
performed on film scores by himself taking
advantaged of using different instruments.
From accompanying singers, performing with
Piano & String quartet, as well as conducting
choirs, bands, orchestras to composing and
producing CD recordings with radio airplay’s
those experiences shaped his craft and
musicianship.
Sound Sampling
As part of today's industry creating
conventional or non conventional music
instruments is to create a new sound
independently as a musician, shaping the
sound of a band by bringing a specific tone
or introducing a new texture, elements to
multimedia and compositional process
offering the signature sound of a composer.

Productions
Stage
Since 19years old Chris was introduced
as a composer and performer to the
world of Theater.
Drama
That was a very valuable time of
learning the drama in a play as well as
the interaction between actors and
musicians on stage during the theater
performance.
Performance
His countless theater performances as
a musician and composer shaped not
only the valuable understanding of the
importance of the right sound for the
right scene but also the immediate
response of an audience that mirrored
the entire theater team performance of
the day.
From composing music for “The Little
Foxes” or “Sherlock Holmes” Play to
Edward Gorey's tragicomedy, Chris
was ready to transform and dive into
the genre and time period in order to
capture what's needed from the past
into today's world.

6 Music Composition
For Multimedia
Film Scoring Process
Collaborating with Filmmakers it's always very
exiting where we try to find the sound that will best
support the film scenes but also more to create a
continuous evolving through-out the film that
supports the drama.
Spotting the Film
We watch the film together in my studio and make
choices on where and what type of music would be
needed.
Writing the Cues
The music composition process takes place and
also the importance of decision making regarding if
the film music composition is either created only
with virtual instruments, recorded inside the
computer or with the live players that involves a
little different planing. Then the music ideas are
sketched out on the paper with a piano, by creating
melodic and harmonic ideas with the desired
tempo. If there will be a live instrument recorded,
sheet music has to be created for the performer.
The process of creating so called mock-up can
serve as an idea for the director, before the music
is shared with an orchestrator in order to create a
full size score and parts to be recorded of the all
music cues on the scoring stage and replace the
mock-up cues. Often the mock-up version
becomes the only music that is given to audio
engineer to create the entire score mix.
Dubbing Stage
After the entire music is mixed as well as SFX and
dialog, all those elements are mixed together as a
final step.

unforgettable memories that lasts.
Gaining valuable experience from directing
Gospel and Pop choirs as well as creating
