Impact on Applications
Traditional:
processes and data were known and rather stable; people had defined roles & tasks; data authors need to
inform interested people when something new has been created; people’ interest is known
New (SoE):
work with more people related data, uncertain and unstructured; interested people can search and find
themselves when something new has been released; people’ interest can be new

Which social network should I use?
17
Twitter: Best for sharing content (blogs, white papers, articles),
professional relationship building, keyword and trend monitoring. The
news feed moves quickly so you can repeat posts.
LinkedIn: Best for business networking, industry news and
discussions, finding prospects, sharing thought leadership
Facebook: Best for short format information, imagery, infographics,
video, following businesses and publications
Google+: Best for short format information, imagery, video,
infographics, animated gifs, Google Hangouts and big impact on SEO
YouTube: Best for video blogs, tutorials, interviews, and testimonials.
Easy content to embed in blog posts and share on social channels
Blog: Best for sharing expertise and thought leadership in a longer
format than most social media, tips and tutorials, best practices, etc.

Best practices:
Sharing your content
- 24. © 2014 IBM CorporationIBM Academy of Technology12th AHA Conference
Your social media posts should….
24
1
2
3
4
Be a teaser that inspires people to click the link
to read or learn more.
Include keywords – which words would you use to search for
similar content? Make those your keywords & hashtags
Be concise. Social media posts perform best when they’re
under 120 characters and include a photo.
Be repeated. Social media (especially Twitter) moves fast and
you can share the same content several times – just say it
differently.
5
Be engaging. Look for opportunities to share your POV by
joining conversations about your areas of expertise and share
links to your content when appropriate.

Shorten URLs for social media posts
25
• Open your content in a browser
and copy the URL
• Shorten the link using a tool like
Bit.ly or Ow.ly
• This provides an abbreviated
URL to help you save space on
social media posts (especially on
Twitter)
• You can view analytics about
who clicked your link in Bit.ly.
Just paste your shortened link in
the browser and add + at the
end

Webcasts
Webcasts are a great way to educate people about your
expertise and content and start a dialogue with
interested parties.
You must share your
webcasts on social
media to gain
attendees.
Record webcasts
and share them
repeatedly after the
event on your social
channels.

What else you can do with your papers to submit…
27
• If you don’t have, create your Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn accounts
• You can identify yourself with your Twitter account while publishing
• You might record a video with a short presentation of your paper, upload it into
YouTube and specify the link in your written paper
• You might post in Twitter that your paper has been published, inviting to watch the
video and comment
• You can open a discussion in LinkedIn about your paper, inviting to participate
• You don’t have to wait only your papers being accepted by any journal and
published
• You can open a blog and start writing on it some short posts about your researches
• You can exploit open blogs and write articles about your studies
• You can search online free archives and write something
• Always, consider you need to interact with other people in the network in order to
maximize your writes
• Any other suggestion?
