Why do you need translation?
It seems like a simple question, yet its one that very
few people can answer confidently.
Generally, the purpose of a translation should be
to help you sell your product or service.
Equally, you may want your company to increase
its global market share, enhance client
satisfaction, or outperform your competitors.
Whatever the reason is, you should know your purpose of translation. Olha

The translation client should tell the translator what
translation is needed for, i.e. its purpose.
In some instances, the client may ask for
 partial or
 summary translation or
 translation may be needed for internal use just
to understand the general idea (“for
information”).
 In other cases, the client may need a
polished translation “for publication”.

Depending on the purpose of translation,
where it will appear and what the translation
client wants it to achieve, style,
pronounceability, word choice, phrasing and
sentence length will vary.
An experienced translator will ask the client for
this information to produce a proper
translation. This information is useful in helping
the translator decide the appropriate manner
in which to translate the text.

By specifying the purpose or intended use of the
translation, the translation client will not only
ensure the text accomplishes its task, but will also
save time and money.
The client will also get better results by developing
an ongoing relationship with a translator as
he/she will understand the client's business
philosophy better and produce more effective
translations.

Answers to such questions are critical to the successful
delivery of a quality translation to the target audience.
While answering questions from the translator, the
appointed person should take target audience of the
translation into account as the end user of a translation
(the target audience translation is intended for) is often
not the person who orders the translation.
