What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A Media Institution is a company or organisation that is accountable for a media text. This could be through marketing, production, distribution or regulation. Three examples of these are the institutions i researched in my secondary research. For Q the institution is ‘Bauer Media’, ‘Kerrang! Is published by Bauer Media’ also, and NME by an institution named IPC Media.
http://edition.cnn.com/ http://www.ipcmedia.com/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/ http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/ http://www.sky.com/shop/ http://www.bbfc.co.uk/ http://www.futureplc.com/ http://developmenthell.co.uk/
My Media Product There are two massive publishing companies I would like to distribute my product; Bauer Media and Future. These are big companies which is one reason for my choosing as it means they are popular and well know, experienced and have larger options in the institution world- for example contact with more popular artists. Below are some examples of media products these institutions distribute. Bauer	Future
These companies are both mass market institutions which I have chosen particularly because of competition. By having my product distributed by Bauer or Future i believe it would be successful as they have a lot of experience with rock music magazines and this is seen throughout some of the most popular music magazines of our time. I believe both of these institutions would publish my product to dissolve any competition it may arise by being supported by another institution. A positive aspect of having my media product accounted for by a small niched publisher is that more time and focus may occur for my product meaning more interest and control of my magazine. However , it would have competition against popular existing rock magazines with a much more influential institutor. http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/ http://www.futureplc.com/
Extending my product Besides a magazine, there are other media aspects in which advertisement occurrs. Kerrang! For example has a website, http://www.kerrang.com/ a radio station and a TV channel. It also has its own tour – Kerrang! Relentless Tour 2011. These are the four main forms or media and by distributing through these aspects creates huge advertisement for the product. A reason I would like my product to be distributed by a large institution is because they have opportunity and popularity to expand into my ways of gaining audience for a product. By having a TV show, radio, website and tour my product can expand to reaching a larger more varied audience.
