This document contains summaries of various topics related to knowledge management from the work of John P. Girard, Ph.D.:
1. It provides a brief biography of John P. Girard and lists some of his publications on knowledge management from 2009 to 2018.
2. It discusses the definition of knowledge management, presenting the most common words that appear in definitions and Girard's proposed definition as "the process of creating, sharing, using and managing the knowledge and information of an organization."
3. It examines the evolution of knowledge management over time from KM 1.0 to 2.0 and 2.5, exploring different conceptions of knowledge, information, and wisdom. It also references models like

8. Defining KM (2015) 8
For many years I resisted
offering a definition for
knowledge management
because whenever I
included a definition in a
talk this would become
the main focus of
attention.

9. KM Defined? 9
A frequency analysis of 100 definitions determined the most common
words appearing in KM definitions were: knowledge, organization,
process, information, use, share, create, and manage. Based on this
review, we propose the following definition:
Knowledge Management is the process of creating, sharing, using
and managing the knowledge and information of an organization.

When you have large amounts of data, your
appetite for hypotheses tends to get even larger.
And if it’s growing faster than the statistical
strength of the data, then many of your
inferences are likely to be false. They are likely to
be white noise.

31. What did happen?

KM never incorporated knowledge derived from data
and analytics. I tried to get my knowledge management
friends to incorporate analytical insights into their
worlds, but most had an antipathy to that topic. It
seems that in this world you either like text or you like
numbers, and few people like both. I shifted into
focusing on analytics and Big Data, but few of the KM
crowd joined me.
