  4. 4. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 4 2015NewYorkInternationalAutoShow Luxury cars and the fuel regulations Even thought the New York show is the oldest car show in North America, it can get overlooked next to the Detroit, Los Angeles, and Chicago shows. This year, however, New York played host to a number of big debuts. When Cadillac announced in January that New York would be the backdrop for the introduction of their new flagship CT6, the gauntlet had been thrown down. But it wasn’t until the first week of April when the relevance of the show came into focus. Luxury cars were front and center for the 2015 NYIAS. Cadillac’s full-sized CT6 introduces the new senior platform and Cadillac’s exclusive 3.0L twin-turbo V6. Across town rival Ford stole GM’s thunder by surprising the audience with the new Lincoln Continental concept and the brand’s new styling direction. Other new and revised luxury models were introduced by Rolls-Royce, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, BMW, and Porsche. But it’s not like the luxury cars of years past. Instead of burly big-displacement V8 engines motivating over-weight land yachts, these new models are fuel efficient and trim. Starting with the Cadillac CT6’s new Omega platform blends aluminum and high strength steel to make a big car that weighs less than the mid-sized competition, while choices under the hood range from a 400hp six-cylinder down to a turbocharged four-cylinder. Lincoln’s sedan also gets nothing larger than a turbo 3.0L V6. As manufacturers plan for their future models, American fuel regulations are playing the greatest role in history. When past regulations might have limited the variations or engines offered, stronger fuel economy rules create whole new powertrains targeting just the US. To reach previously unreachable goals, more and more models are offering electric-only, hybrid, and even the return of diesel engines. Plug-in hybrids from BMW and Mercedes-Benz boost fuel economy numbers to near regulated goals, years ahead of schedule. The New York show has introduced the world to many new vehicles over the last century and, as the industry’s last car show of the season, manufacturers want to take the chance to quench the appetite for cars and trucks until fall.
  5. 5. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 5 World Car of theYear 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class After taking third in the European Car of the Year competition (behind the winning Volkswagen Passat and 2nd place Citroen C4 Cactus), the award of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class as World Car of the Year was a bit of a surprise. Mercedes-Benz did a great job with the latest generation C-Class. Riding on Mercedes-Benz’ new Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, the car is positioned for the future. The MRA platform decreases the vehicle’s weight while allowing Mercedes-Benz to create a larger number of models from this one architecture including the GLC (replacing the GLK) and the next-generation E-Class. 2015 Ford Mustang 2015 Volkswagen Passat Performance Car of the Year 2015 Mercedes-AMG GT Luxury Car of the Year 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Design of the Year 2015 Citroen C4 Cactus Green Car of the Year 2015 BMW i8
