  4. 4. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 4 January2016:AutoShowReview CES is the new NAIAS? Detroit officially became the “North American International Auto Show” (NAIAS) about a quarter century ago. Raising its prominence in the global auto show rankings, Detroit took the front row along with the top European and Asian shows. Some automakers, however, don’t see Detroit as a “must-attend” event. This year, Bentley, Jaguar-Land Rover, Mini and Tesla decided to not show its wares in the Motor City. Their claim was each brand is between major launches, but that’s not quite the case. Bentley has the new Bentayga SUV, Jaguar has the F-Pace crossover, and Tesla has the new Model X, none of which have appeared in Detroit. Could it be that Detroit is losing its luster? It’s possible, and there are several reasons why this could be the case. First, there’s the weather. It may be a tired argument, but the North American International Auto Show is held two weeks into winter…in Detroit; a city not known for tropical weather in January. Attendees have slogged through a foot or two of snow while trying to park a few blocks away. On the plus side, it’s warm enough inside to make you forget the adventure that awaits after the show as patrons slide through the slush on Washington Boulevard hunting for their ride home. Second, Detroit is no longer the center of the automotive universe. One hundred years ago, more than half of the world’s motor vehicles were produced by companies headquartered in and around Detroit. In recent years, the “Big 3” car companies have been renamed by some media as the “Detroit 3”, pointing out how GM, Ford, and the former Chrysler Corporation have slipped from the globe’s 1-2-3 to 5-6-8 with manufacturers in Japan, Germany, and South Korea well ahead of the former “Big 3”. Third, there’s the competition. After the Los Angeles show moved to November, Detroit was all alone at the beginning of the year. LA’s importance has grown over the years as more and more companies look to Southern California for its cultural importance. But the bigger issue is with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the week before NAIAS, where the technology featured in modern cars are showcased to the electronics industry and the world. Detroit’s taking a back seat.
  5. 5. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 5 NorthAmerican Car of theYear 2016 Honda Civic After Honda’s mis-step with the 9th generation model, the company stepped up and created the all-new 10th generation and the voters loved it. Beating out all-new models from Chevrolet and Mazda, the Civic returns with a coupe and sedan featuring the first turbocharged engine in the model’s history. Radical styling and new features make the Civic this year’s winner. 2016 Chevrolet Malibu 2016 Mazda MX-5
  6. 6. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 6 Sporting three versions of Volvo’s new four-cylinder engine (in turbo, supercharged- turbo, and hybrid versions), the second- generation full-sized crossover beat out excellent restylings of Honda’s big CUV and Nissan’s full-sized pickup. With three rows of seating, the XC90 takes its Swedish roots to heart and embraces it fully (leading off with “Thor’s hammer” headlights). NorthAmerican Truck of the Year 2016 Volvo XC90 2016 Honda Pilot 2016 Nissan Titan XD

  12. 12. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 12 Ford 2017 LincolnContinental • Introduced as a concept at last year’s New York Auto Show, the ‘17 Continental keeps many of the styling cues found on the original showcar • The production version will offer three states of V6 power including the standard 3.7L, the 2.7L EcoBoost twin-turbo, and the new 3.0L twin-turbo 400hp engine, powering the front or all four wheels • Driver and front passenger are treated to “30-way” seats featuring adjustments for each leg • Third-generation Sync system improves on the hands-free control of many of the car’s features • High-end Revel sound system sports 19 speakers and 3 sound modes
  13. 13. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 13 Geely 2017 VolvoS90 • Following the new XC90 crossover, the S90 is the second model to use Volvo’s new SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform which will become the basis for all next-generation Volvos • Long and low, the S90 has an almost rear-wheel drive silhouette, stretching the new platform to its theoretical limit • Like the XC90, the S90 will be offered with three 2.0L four-cylinder powertrain options including the 240hp T5 turbo, 302hp T6 turbo/supercharged version, and the 410hp T8 turbo/supercharged hybrid, all mated to an 8-speed automatic transaxle powering the front or all four wheels • Electronic do-dads galore enhance the classic safety image of Volvo including the semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system
  14. 14. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 14 GeneralMotors 2016 Buick Avista concept • Purely a styling concept, the Avista gives many Buick fans hope that a new Riviera might be in the brand’s future • Based on a rear-wheel drive platform that can only be assumed to be GM’s Alpha, the long and low coupe displays an athletic silhouette unlike any recent Buick, production or concept • Buick described the powerplant as a 400hp 3.0L V6 mated to an eight- speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels • The Avista’s modern interior allows for seating for four and features a fully digital instrument panel
  15. 15. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 15 GeneralMotors 2017 ChevroletBolt • Introduced as a concept at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, this is the final production version, expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2016 • Instead of the airy subcompact box shown as the concept, the production version looks more like a small crossover with a much sportier design • As promised, the all-electric Bolt will be priced around $37,500, before incentives, and feature a 200-mile range • GM claims an unprecedented $145/kWh LG Chem battery pack, beating prices promised by even Tesla’s next-generation batteries
  16. 16. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 16 GeneralMotors 2017 GMC Acadia • Positioned below the current model, the ‘17 Acadia loses length, height, and width along with 700lbs of weight placing it between the compact GMC Terrain and larger Buick Enclave • Five-seats are standard while an optional third row makes seating for seven possible • In addition to the carry-over 3.6L V6 engine, standard power comes from the start/stop-equipped 2.5L four-cylinder which improves fuel economy substantially; gear changing is accomplished by a six-speed automatic unit • New active safety includes front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator, Intellibeam automatic high-beam headlights, Surround Vision cameras, and Safety Alert Seat
  17. 17. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 17 Honda 2016 Acura Precision Concept • One of the most distinctive introductions at the show, the Precision Concept shows the way for the new Acura design language as the brand tries to break from its traditionally conservative styling • A new “Diamond Pentagon” grille is expected to become the trademark look for future sedans and coupes in the lineup • The concept’s intricate exterior curves hide a modern and clean interior with a nearly rectangular steering wheel and a significant lack of buttons and switches supported by a wide infotainment screen • Designed for purely stylistic reasons, the concept was shown without a powertrain but is built around a long and wide platform with the front wheels hinting at rear-wheel drive proportions
  18. 18. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 18 Honda 2017 Honda Ridgeline • Based on the latest Honda Pilot, the second-generation Ridgeline takes a more truck-like direction than the first generation • Offered with all-wheel drive or, for the first time, front-wheel drive, the new pickup may appeal to a wider audience • Dropping the earlier model’s sail panels around the bed, the 2017 Ridgeline features a cargo box which looks more like a traditional pickup although the bed is not separated from the cabin; the tailgate both lowers and swings to the side and reveals the in-floor lockable storage • Power comes from the Pilot’s 280hp 3.5L V6 engine pushed through a 6- speed automatic transaxle and available with Honda’s i-VTM4 all-wheel drive • Payload capacity of around 1,600lbs has been promised making it compatible with other mid-sized pickups
  19. 19. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 19 Hyundai/Kia 2017 Genesis G90 • Replacing the Hyundai Equus and doubling the new Genesis brand’s lineup is the full-sized G90 sedan • Rear-wheel drive is standard while all-wheel drive is optional with a choice of Hyundai’s 3.8L V6, twin-turbo 3.3L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines joined to an 8-speed automatic • In order to compete with the “big boys” from Germany, the G90 showcases all of the latest technological wonders including a 12.3-inch high-def screen in the center console to harness the megapixel camera and 360-degree monitoring system • Of course, all of the semi-autonomous features such as dynamic cruise control, blind spot alert system, and active lane assist are offered
  20. 20. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 20 Hyundai/Kia 2017 Kia Forte • Kia’s popular Forte compact is heading into the new model year with a modest styling revision including a more prominent version of the brand’s “tiger nose” grille • Under the hood, a new Atkinson cycle 2.0L four-cylinder replaces the 1.8L engine with a choice of manual or automatic 6- speed transaxles; a 1.6L turbo and 7-speed DCT will be available • Production of the Forte christens the company’s second North American plant in Monterrey, Mexico • Two versions, four-door sedan and four-door hatchback, were introduced at the Detroit show, but a replacement for the two-door Forte Koup will follow
  21. 21. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 21 Hyundai/Kia 2016 Kia Soul • Kia used the Consumer Electronics Show to debut its new “Drive Wise” sub brand for its electronic driving aids and demonstrated some on its Kia Soul • Drive Wise is promised to lead Kia to partial autonomy by 2020 and full autonomy a decade later • I-Cockpit combines gesture and touchpad control to adjust the sound system and climate control to the driver’s preferences • Highway Autonomous Driving allows the car to assist lane changes and passing on the open road • Preceding Vehicle Following system which takes autonomy to the next level • Emergency Stop System helps get the driver to safety if they stop watching the road for too long
  22. 22. info@autoforecastsolutions.com 855.734.4590www.autoforecastsolutions.com AutoForecast Solutions 22 Hyundai/Kia 2016 Kia Tellurideconcept • Based on the mid-sized Sorento, the Telluride hints at a larger production crossover to replace the ill-fated Borrego • Riding on a wheelbase nearly a foot longer than the Sorento, the Telluride’s big features hide the fact that it’s a very large (9.5 inches longer than the 7- passenger Sorento) sport utility • The concept’s modern interior sports four bucket seats as well as a fold away third row • Hybrid power mating a 130hp electric motor and the 270hp 3.5L V6 engine powers all four wheels but returns a claimed 30 mpg
