April2016:NewYorkInternationalAutoShowReview
LuxuryDebuts Mark a Great Economy
Its strange how it looks like Green Cars are the
highlight of this year’s New York auto show
when gasoline is averaging under $2 across the
United States. General Motors highlighted
updates to their smallest Buick and the littlest
American-made Chevrolet, Porsche launched a
four-cylinder Macan crossover, Toyota launched
a 50-state plug-in hybrid, Acura introduced a
hybrid version of the MDX, and even the first
Genesis brand concept sported a hybrid
drivetrain.
The biggest splashes, however, were from the
less eco-friendly side of the industry. Mercedes-
Benz showed a sportier version of its compact
GLC crossover with 367hp along with two high-
performance AMG versions of other models.
Kia took the show to introduce the second
generation of its Cadenza full-sized sedan.
Nissan’s supercar, the GT-R, added new styling
and even more power. Porsche went old-school
with its racing edition 911 R with less weight, a
real 6-speed manual transaxle and a larger
non-turbo six-cylinder pumping out 500hp. But,
arguably, the stars of the show were two
concepts for two different luxury marques.
Rumored for nearly a decade, Hyundai rolled
out is Genesis brand earlier this year with
revamped versions of the top two Hyundai
models. As part of a future six-model lineup, it
was a certainty that announcements were on
their way. The first came in the form of the “New
York Concept,” which promises to point the way
for the new Genesis design theme and hint at
the upcoming “entry-level” Genesis G70 sedan.
The beauty of the “New York Concept” cannot
be properly demonstrated in photographs since
there are just too many details that need to be
seen as a whole. Obvious winner.
As part of Lincoln’s reintroduction to the world,
Matthew McConnaughey swaggered onto the
stage and unveiled the Navigator Concept. This
is the second straight introduction where an
actual name was used instead of the “MK”
series that flushed Zephyr and Town Car from
the lexicon. As a large SUV concept, the
Navigator shows the clean lines from the
Continental and the vast interior space offered
in the Navigator production model. Even though
its lavish and huge gull-wing doors won’t make
production, another obvious winner.

World Car of theYear
2016 Mazda MX-5
The 10th annual World Car Awards

GLC. Other awards included Design (Mazda
MX-5), Green Car (Toyota Mirai),
Performance Car (Audi R8), and Luxury Car
(BMW 7-Series).

Daimler
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe
•Starting with the new GLC
crossover, Mercedes-Benz
created a sportier “coupe” body
style to take on the BMW X4
•Enhancing its sportier style, the
GLC Coupe drops the frames
from the standard GLC’s
windows, removes the wagon-
like roofline in favor of a hatch-
like silhouette, and lowers the
top for a sleeker, faster look
•Nearly three inches longer, an inch and a half lower, and more than 4 ¼
inches wider than the standard GLC, the Coupe has a more aggressive
demeanor and style
•Under the hood lies a twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 367hp and
pushing it all through Mercedes-Benz’ 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic
transmission powering all four 21-inch wheels

2016 LincolnNavigatorconcept
•Just about as wild as modern
American concepts get, the
Navigator concept provides a
look at the new Lincoln styling
theme stretched across the large
SUV canvas
•The new Continental’s front clip
has been enlarged to Navigator
size and still retains the modern
look of the large sedan
•Instead of the four doors on the standard-length Navigator, the concept
fills the sides with two large gull-wing doors hinged near the central line of
the truck; production version will obviously trade them for swinging doors
•The next generation of 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine is said to
produce over 400hp in this vehicle

models feature the “Diamond Butterfly” styling that ties it with the rest of
the Kia lineup while the upper models get a unique “Intaglio” grille with its
vertical slats
