Charlemagne Merovingian was a prominent emperor of the
                  Frankish Empire!
When was he
     crowned
     emperor?
Charlemagne was crowned emperor
on Christmas Eve at mass. Pope Leo
III was holding the mass.
The Pope crowned Charlemagne
without notice.
He was then no longer king.
Charlemagne was now the emperor
of the Holy Roman Empire.

Charlemagne was a boundless man       -Coat of otter skins
with a lofty stature. He was known
      to be a very good ruler.        -Blue cloak
Charlemagne loved to bathe in hot

promoted teaching in many ways.

  2. Who was Charlemagne?Charlemagne Merovingian, know as Charles the Great, was a prominent (important, well known) emperor of the Frankish Empire!
  3. When was he crowned emperor?Charlemagne was crowned emperor on Christmas Eve, or December 24th, at mass. Pope Leo III (the third) was holding the mass. Out of nowhere, the Pope crowned Charlemagne emperor. This made him no longer a king. Now he was an emperor.
  4. What was Charlemagne Like?Charlemagne was a man with no boundaries, and was a tall and lofty figure. He was known to love bathing and reading. He cultivated liberal arts and loved education.What did he wear?Charlemagne wore linen breeched, a tunic, (on cold days) a coat made of otter or marten skins, a blue cloak, decorated shoes, and a diadem (band of cloth).
  5. Charlemagne had multiple accomplishments, mainly in three areas. Politically, he made his kingdom larger, issued money, rebuilt roads and certain infrastructure, created trade routes, made laws, cleansed his kingdom from robbers and thieves, and redeveloped old cities.Educationally, he made lowercase letters, founded schools in churches and ministries, and studied religion, latin, music, literature, and arithmetic.
  6. He has a variety of accomplishments in the cultural area too. Charlemagne spread christian religion, developed art, philosophy, sculptures, metal work, chapels, and churches. He also made the Saxons accept Christianity.
  7. How did Charlemagne die?Charlemagne died of a high fever at age 72. He only took liquid medicene and eventually died with a 7 day sickness.
