Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre manufacturer, worked with Sigmavision at the recent British Masters supported by Sky Sports golf event in October, where 2,400 cars were surveyed, to measure tread depth with the company’s TreadReaderTM hand held scanners.

4. 805 tyres ‘badly worn’ or showing uneven wear
due to misalignment or tyre inflation problems
380 vehicles (15.8%) with at least one tyre
having a tread depth below 3mm.
65 of those vehicles (2.7%) with one tyre below
the legal limit of 1.6mm.

5. 389 of the 805 tyres (48.3%), showed
uneven tyre due to wheel misalignment
189 of 805 tyres scanned (23.5%) showed
signs of tyre under-inflation
57 tyres (7.1%) with accelerated centre
wear, symptomatic of tyre over-inflation.
