Let us know which of our
new solutions you would like
to get for information for.
Let me explain what the impact will be and what our/mine understanding is.
What you see here is the long tail curve of our industry.
There are very few publishers providing high amount of titles
And there are many midsize and small publisher that provide only very few titles each.
If we would look at the content of each library we would come up with a similar curve for the content the have and need
In order to go direct consortia of course focus on the publishers with the highest amount of titles in order to achieve a very attractive price and terms for their members.
The larger the package, the larger the sales price, the larger the discount in absolute terms.
The impact for the agents is that they will loose the efficiency gains and the publisher commission that has been an important component of their service fee calculation.
As a result the average cost to serve a subscription will logically go up.
In order NOT to make a loss as a company the service fee has to increase.
The total cost increase depends on how much consortia want to move the red line from left to right. Meaning the more direct deals will be established the more the cost per subscription goes up.
Our strengths are
Servicing a global customer base with high requirements and budgets under pressure
Sourcing the market and selecting promising and established products that are of value for our customers
Informing and consulting our customers on new products
Setting up and managing trials for our customers
Implementing the selected software and supporting the roll out to the users
Proving 1st and 2nd level support
Managing the payment process and the relationship with the software provider
Let me quickly run you through the list of product that will be part of our forward looking product portfolio.
In regards to managing electronic resource we expect that all libraries sooner or later will invest in improving their current library management system or will buy a new Electronic Resource Management System to manager electronic resource better. Nevertheless we will still see that some critical areas will/ or can not be addressed by those larger applications.
3 of those are:
Identity & access management
eResource monitor & troubleshoot
Open Access - APC management
In regards to research there a few strong trends recognizable:
Librarians are more than ever strive to support researchers and students more than ever to demonstrate the value of a library
On the other hand researchers and students are using tools that their peers and friends recommend and available on the internet.
With our 3 solutions we want to help our customers, the library to bring both together.
Last but not least and based on what the topics above we see and increasing demand towards the library to provide more transparency and metrics measure to core activities and become able to provide competence recommendations and make informed decions
