Panagiotis Oikonomopoulos, also known as Takis, is a former Greek goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach. He played professionally from 1959-1976, making over 400 appearances including 40 for the Greek national team. As a player, he won 5 Greek championships and 2 cups with Panathinaikos FC. He also played in the 1971 European Cup final against Ajax. After retiring as a player, he served as goalkeeper coach for Panathinaikos FC from 1979-2007, helping the team win numerous championships and cups. He is currently the President of the Panathinaikos Alliance.

3. HISTORY
As a player, Oikonomopoulos joined Kallithea FC in 1959, moving to Apollon in 1960, and then
to Proodeftiki in 1962. He joined Panathinaikos FC in 1963, and until 1976 played as the starting
Goalkeeper.
Oikonomopoulos, (nicknamed “The Bird”), was a member of the Greek championship-winning
teams of Panathinaikos in: 1963-64, 1964-65, 1968-69, 1969-70, 1971-72 as well as the cup-
winning teams of 1967-68, 1969-70.
310 of his total career 400 matches were with Panathinaikos FC.
He also participated 40 times with the Greek National Team.
In 1971, he played against Ajax of Amsterdam in the final at Wembley Stadium for the European
Champion Cup (today’s Champions League).
Following this success in 1971, Real Madrid requested Oikonomopoulos a second time, the first
being in 1968. Both requests were denied by the then ruling Greek military dictatorship.
From 1979-2007, he served as a member of the Panathinaikos FC staff as Goalkeeper Trainer,
Assistant Coach, and interim Head Coach (2002) with Panathinaikos FC.
During his career as a Goalkeepers Coach, Panathinaikos FC won 6 championships:
(1983-84, 1985-86, 1989-90, 1990-91, 1994-95, 1995-96);
and 9 cups (1981-82, 1983-84, 1985-86, 1987-88, 1988-89, 1990-91, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95)
During his coaching career, Panathinaikos reached The Champions League Semi-Finals on two
occasions: In the 1984-85 season vs. Liverpool, and once again in 1995-96 against Ajax.
In 2001-02 the team reached the Quarter-Finals against Barcelona.
Presently, Takis Oikonomopoulos is President of the Panathinaikos Alliance
