Travel	
  Agents	
  were	
  working	
  24-­‐hour	
  shi9s,	
  over	
  
the	
  weekend,	
  just	
  being	
  there	
  for	
  the	
  travellers,	
  
finding

  accommoda@on,	
  etc.	
  
Now,	
   in	
   the	
   21st	
  	
  
century,	
  technology	
  is	
  
expected	
   to	
   solve	
  
most	
   of	
   the	
   Travel	
  
Agents’	
  pain	
  points.	
  
	
  
	
  
	
  
	
  
	
  
But	
  in	
  fact,	
  it	
  has	
  not.	
  
Travel	
   Agents	
   s@ll	
   depend	
  
on	
   old	
   systems	
   to	
   service	
  
their	
  customers.

  we	
  live	
  in	
  the	
  mobile	
  
age.	
  
When	
   travellers	
   have	
   apps	
   for	
   everything,	
   when	
  
everything	
   they	
   do	
   is	
   on	
   mobile,	
   they	
   expect	
   their	
  
suppliers	
  to	
  be	
  equipped	
  at	
  least	
  at	
  the	
  same	
  level.	
  
Before	
   not	
   so	
   long	
   ago,	
  
there	
   were	
   no	
   mobile	
  
apps	
   for	
   the	
   travel	
  
agents,	
   they	
   were	
   s@ll	
  
stuck	
   to	
   the	
   old	
   GDS	
  
terminal	
   on	
   a	
   Windows

  TTS,	
  Solve the
Unsolved.

   put	
   together	
   a	
   great	
   team	
   and	
   started	
  
brainstorming.	
  We	
  kept	
  going	
  un@l	
  we	
  managed	
  
to	
   solve	
   all	
   the	
   challenges	
   and	
   get	
   the	
   long	
  
desired	
  product.	
  
With	
  the	
  full	
  support	
  of	
  the	
  Travelport	
  team	
  in	
  Portugal,	
  we	
  decided	
  
to	
  release	
  it	
  in	
  three	
  countries:	
  Portugal,	
  Spain	
  and	
  Brazil,	
  as	
  a	
  kind	
  
of	
  concept	
  test.	
  
What	
   happened	
   a9erwards	
   was	
   unbelievably	
  
amazing.	
  The	
  word	
  got	
  out	
  and	
  at	
  TTS	
  we	
  started	
  
gekng	
  requests	
  from	
  all	
  over	
  the	
  world.	
  
Travelport	
   Mobile	
   Agent	
   has	
   changed	
   how	
   thousands	
  
of	
   Travel	
   Agents	
   around	
   the	
   world	
   service	
   their	
  
customers,	
   but	
   even	
   more	
   important,	
   it	
   has	
   provided

   doing

Travelport Mobile Agent - The story behind one great app for travel agents

  • 1. The Story behind Travelport Mobile Agent, a great mobile app dedicated to Travel Agents And about why everyone is still amazed about it J
  • 2. Everything  starts  with  awareness   Learning  how  difficult   the   travel   agents’   work   is,   and   how   o9en   they   need   to   put   their   private   life   aside  to  take  care  of   their  travellers.  
  • 3.   • 4. She   needs   to   stop   whatever   she   is   doing   and   focus   on   the   problem   at   hand,   like   finding  a  flight  because   a   traveller   urgently   needs   to   come   back   home,   or   because   he   has  just  missed  a  flight.    
  • 5. Remember  the  volcanic   ash  cloud  in  2010?  
  • 6. Travel  Agents  were  working  24-­‐hour  shi9s,  over   the  weekend,  just  being  there  for  the  travellers,   finding  alterna@ves,  accommoda@on,  etc.  
  • 7. Now,   in   the   21st     century,  technology  is   expected   to   solve   most   of   the   Travel   Agents’  pain  points.             But  in  fact,  it  has  not.  
  • 8. Travel   Agents   s@ll   depend   on   old   systems   to   service   their  customers.  
  • 9. That’s   one   of   the   reasons     travel   agents   o 9 e n   c a r r y   t h e i r   h e a v y   l a p t o p s   everywhere.  
  • 10. Others  take  a  risk,  and  leave  the  laptop  in  the  office…   …but  then  they  always  end  up  driving   back  to  solve  some  urgent  need.  
  • 11. Most   of   the   @mes,   it   only  takes  a  couple  of   minutes   for   a   travel   agent   to   do   what   he   needs   to   do   on   the   GDS.    
  • 12. What  makes  everything  more  challenging  for  the   travel  agents  is  the  fact  that  we  live  in  the  mobile   age.  
  • 13. When   travellers   have   apps   for   everything,   when   everything   they   do   is   on   mobile,   they   expect   their   suppliers  to  be  equipped  at  least  at  the  same  level.  
  • 14. Before   not   so   long   ago,   there   were   no   mobile   apps   for   the   travel   agents,   they   were   s@ll   stuck   to   the   old   GDS   terminal   on   a   Windows   computer…   *Source:  Corbisimages.com  
  • 15. The  AHAAA  Moment!   W h a t   a b o u t   a   mobile   app   that   would   allow   travel   agents  to  access  the   GDS   terminal   right   f r o m   t h e i r   smartphones?   ...un@l  one  day  when  TTS   stepped  in.  
  • 16. ACTION! This   felt   challenging   and   that’s   what   we   do  at  TTS,  Solve the Unsolved.
  • 17. So   we   put   together   a   great   team   and   started   brainstorming.  We  kept  going  un@l  we  managed   to   solve   all   the   challenges   and   get   the   long   desired  product.  
  • 18. With  the  full  support  of  the  Travelport  team  in  Portugal,  we  decided   to  release  it  in  three  countries:  Portugal,  Spain  and  Brazil,  as  a  kind   of  concept  test.  
  • 19. What   happened   a9erwards   was   unbelievably   amazing.  The  word  got  out  and  at  TTS  we  started   gekng  requests  from  all  over  the  world.  
  • 20. Travelport   Mobile   Agent   has   changed   how   thousands   of   Travel   Agents   around   the   world   service   their   customers,   but   even   more   important,   it   has   provided   Travel   Agents   the   choice   of   doing   what   they   need   to   do,  when  they  need  to  do,  wherever  they  are.  
  • 21. It   runs   on   tablets   &   smartphones   meaning   that   the   travel   agent   can   immediately   react   to   calls   with   a   simple  push  of  a  buFon.  
  • 22. Nowadays  travel  agents  can  enjoy  the  latest   3.0  version  of  Travelport  Mobile  Agent
