SENSORS
➢ More apparatus
& IoT sensors ?
➢ Hard to add more
vendors to the poor
PLC !
6. Prior to Industry 4.0
➢ Robust protocols
➢ Very Complex
➢ No real-time BI

11. EU single market : “UK wants to take
back control, and adopt its own
standards & regulations”
• But… UK also wants those standards be
recognized automatically by EU
• European Commission’s answer (Aug 31st) :
« This is simply impossible! » You cannot
be outside the legal market and shape its legal
order.

15. OPC UA PubSub roadmap
• Microsoft is at the origin
(but not anymore)
• with COM/DCOM
• OPC = OLE for Process
Control
• UA = Universal Architecture
• https://opcfoundation.org/about/opc-
foundation/history/
- Independent and international standard
IEC 62541 specification
- 10,000 OPC products available in the marketplace
Think big … and global !
17. ➢ More OPC UA, with Pub/Sub
➢TSN : Time Sensitive Network
(set of standards under devt IEEE 802.1
for Ethernet + deterministic real-time bus)
➢PLC + TSN + OPC + Robot moves
18. ➢ Not only a protocol,
➢ Documented Models (security, …),
➢ Document on Ubiquitous language : All team
members speaks the same language with
standardized definition and abbreviations (for
stakeholder, dev, production, support…).
➢Ex. “Complex Data” and “Alarm” and UADP Else
frustration and waste of time
➢…
19. ➢OPC Foundation’s President Thomas J. Burke said
➢Stefan Hoppe, OPC Foundation’s Vice President said
➢Microsoft has invested considerably in IoT
27. Industry 4.0 killing human jobs ?
Yes and No on the overall ! More decentralized sites, commerce, indirect jobs…
“As Adidas announces a new
robot shoe factory, an ILO
report says up to 90% of
workers in south-east Asia
could face unemployment
due to automation”
The Guardian, 2016 Jul 16
Workers on a production line in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Nine million people, mostly young women, are dependent on
garment and footwear jobs in south-east Asia.

28. IoT not secure ?
Many IoT and IIot hacked Need secured protocols and project management
Cyber physical system = Hack !
GDPR : Europe has unified its
regulation concerning personal
data privacy & storage (#credit
cards, names, date of birth, …)
July 31, 2017 : Security Flow, 175,000 IoT cameras hackable
➢ Fines 20 million €
30. “There is No Industry 4.0 without OPC UA” why ?
Germany : OPC UA = Compulsory
Many sources, eg. https://www.pc-control.net/pdf/012017/technology/pcc_0117_industrie-40-opc-ua_e.pdf
31. Faster, more Precise
and more Effective
Decisions
ESP is transformational
because it enables
situation awareness
34. The Cloud hosts
the most Complex
Processing
Simple processing
filtering, batching, compression
Complex processing
Azure Stream Analytics, Cognitive Services
35. IoT contraints in 2017
• 10 to 15 years ago, no real BigData
• 2017 : explosion of the Data Scientific jobs thanks to BigData,
and the need to process it
• BUT now IoT are returning a massive amount of information
which jams into the network
• We can no longer send real-time infra-red images of 200
cameras to the server, for processing the RAW video
and take actions.
• Data MUST be processed close to
the devices New discipline :
IoT Edge processing
with Data Science embedded
into the device or the gateway.
36. IoT contraints in 2017
• IoT Edge Computing & OpenFog
consorsium
• Aim of Microsoft : Rely on
Containers to have a unified
experience in coding DataScience in
both:
• the Cloud (CT)
• and on the Field Device side (OT)

37. IoT contraints in 2017
• Azure IoT Edge (was Azure IoT Gateway SDK) :
https://azure.microsoft.com/fr-fr/campaigns/iot-
edge/
• https://github.com/azure/iot-edge
Short term aim:
• Azure Machine Learning
• Azure Stream Analytics
• Azure Functions
• Artificial Intelligence, including Cognitive Services
• Azure IoT Hub communication and device
management features
https://github.com/azure/mmlspark (public 22 August 2017)
38. Microsoft is very active on Industry 4.0 for years
• Invests : Thousands of $ on
standards
• Contributes : work on projects
• Shares : Talks + GITHUB
• Change : Modify Azure to comply

messe-2017-systems-federation-in-industrie-40
41. OPC UA
is for
industry !
➢ Not for small projects
➢ Powerful and robust
➢ Allows unification of devices and save
time and money
➢ Largely documented standard
44. FUTURE (not NDA, but
important !)
• Big Bet on Docker (ex. IoT Edge, hence Azure ML) and
GIT
• Python, PySpark (Terabytes of data for many clusters), R
• Carry on Cross platform : OS X, Windows, Linux (CLI)
• IoT Central
• IoT + Blockchain…. (transition to talk !)
Don’t miss out the next
talk about Blockchain !
