Script extract:
Meeting the resistance
(James stands at the entrance to the tunnel with people standing and sitting on the
trains. He has just taken verbal abuse from some of the people.)
James: OK, anybody else pissed off with me (looks around), I can help you, I want to
help you but you have to let me. I’ll say this again. I am not him. The one who did this to
you, he is my subconscious in a physical form, and I need….
Crowd member 1: piss of you bastard!
(Uproar from audience)
James: so I’ll just slay the dragon by my self then shall I…
Max: oh just shove off already! Haven’t you done enough damage yet?
James :( angrily) I am not him!
(The crowd start throwing objects at James so he turns and flees. He then lights a fire
away from the tunnel and is about to eat a chicken drumstick he found when David
finds him)
David: hey
2. James: (hoarsely) oh bloody hell, I’m glad to see you.
David: yeh, same here. I saw what they did to you, I’m sorry. The year 11’s listen to me,
but the younger years, my god they’re a bunch of twats.
James: yeh, but that’s how they think of me, they hate me cos of him, they won’t even
let me explain.
David: (sits down opposite James) he has been purging the place for 3 months now.
They’re scared of him, and the walking dead. We all are.
James: (looking at David) they’re called inhabitants. He… influences people and then kills
their (he rises his hand and illustrate quotation marks) soul, and takes over. How the
hell did you find me anyway?
David: I saw the smoke, thought it must a camp fire, so I followed it. He doesn’t make
camps you see, so know it wasn’t one of his lot.
James: you’re a good friend, David. (Eats a bit off the chicken drumstick)
David: (uncertainly) thanks
James: but why are you here, why bother trying to find me. Isn’t there someone else
who needs you, like Alex, or, or, doesn’t Sophie need you to be her knight in shinning
armour?
David: (he rests his chin on both of his fists and takes a deep breath) he took her.
James: (pause) I know, he showed me (his face is solemn and he looks away from David)
David: eh?
James: in Limbo, he showed me in limbo, look (pause, looks up at David) that’s not
important, I need to get the resistance on my side, we need to put an end to him, we’re
running out of time.
David: I know that. It’s not going to be easy to convince them that you’re not him, but
I’ll have I go, if you lie low for a bit then-
James: (firmly) no. I need to get in there; maybe the fact that I haven’t killed you may
convince them.
David: fine, I’ll lead you in, at least try to get you some were to sleep.
James: thanks mate. Trust me when I say I can help cos-
David: I believe you, you’re right. We need help.
End of scene
Script extract 2
Sophie’s death
(James is sitting on the ground with his back on the wire fence panting after just
defeating his subconscious. Suddenly a gun shot fires and James spins around on the
spot and sees Sophie collapsing.)
James: (desperately) c’mon, c’mon stay with me
(He runs towards the spot were she is, we see one of the inhabitants collapsing. James
slides along the concrete to Sophie and cradles her.)
3. James: You have to fight the pain. You fought of torture from Michele, you can fight
this! It’s just a bullet.
(He rips of his glow stick and shakes it.)
Ok. Hang on. Helps going to be on its way
(Sophie drops her head and groans.)
You’ve just got to hang on bit more, OK. Help will come, and we’ll get through this.
(James begins to cry.)
(Turns to the field at the meeting point.)
COME ON! I need help! Please, hurry up
(Crying heavily now he turns back to Sophie who closes her eyes)
Please, don’t go. Please. Don’t leave me.
(James screams in pain and terror as she finally dies.)
Why!
(Through tears)
It’s not fair! S’not fair!
(Screams one last time. And buries his head into Sophie’s shoulder.)
