How to invigorate nerdy presentation performance By: Ah’livia

                                                                        presentation here 

                       is the presentation nerd?
The presentation nerd is a boring techie, academic, scientist, or inventor.

Who is the ?
Your audience may consist of ‚nerds‛ and non-techies. It is your job to identify who your
audience is. Understanding your audience’s characteristics will help you better influence them
by catering your presentation around their style.

Since your audience may not contain your peer group of ‚nerds‛ be sure to limit the techie
jargon. However be careful to not dumb things down too much because doing so may insult
your audience.

Finally remember that your audience is not comprised of techie robots but instead humans
with emotions. So focus on selling the audience your content and the sentiments it brings.
How does effective presentation sound?
Presentation speech is best when it consists of vibrant and various speech tones and patterns.
Speech is the worst when it’s a consistent drone of monotone words.

What effect can have on presentations?
It is not uncommon to hear people praise the benefits of diversity, but it is somewhat
uncomfortable to discuss when diversity is not desired. Accents can become obstacles to
successful communication.

It wastes time when the audience is mentally interpreting the speaker’s words rather than the
concepts being presented. Make it easy for them and have the person on your team with the
least sounding accent (accent most similar to the presentation location’s accent) present the
material. When the audience is not affected by unfamiliar accents it increases the likelihood of
them going along with your idea.

Who should you ?
TV is the best presentation coach. Your audience may consist of 30 to maybe a few hundred
people whereas television has millions of viewers, so they must be doing something right. Go
home and watch your favorite scripted television show. Pay attention to what characters are
most favored on the show. Do the characters use extravagant wordy speech or short clear
phrases? Practicing this technique will make you more relatable to your audience.

How to incorporate while presenting?
Ditch glancing at notes and simply look up and speak to your audience. Looking down while
reading notes both separates you from your audience and insults them. It is insulting because
it comes off as though you are reading stories to children rather than having a dialogue with
adults.
What do you need to up?
‚Nerd‛ research often consists of mounds of detailed information. However it is a critical error
to translate the same heap of information to the audience using visuals. Clean up visual aids
by editing them down to the most significant points.

How to enhance appeal?
The ‘Business Basics’ wardrobe guidelines (slide 23) is the best recommendation for all
presentation scenarios.

However if you choose to wear something innovative (like the keyboard – jeans shown on slide
24) I recommend pairing them with a crisp conservative button up shirt, linen tie, and finishing
off this outfit with trendy styled loafers.
