  2. 2. <ul><li>WHAT IS DESIGN FOR CHANGE? </li></ul><ul><li>It is a global movement designed to give young people an opportunity to express their own ideas for a better world and put them into action. </li></ul><ul><li>Moving students from passive (“Can I?”) to ACTIVE (“I CAN!”). </li></ul>
  3. 3. Children use a simple process of FEEL ( anything that bothers them) IMAGINE ( brainstorm ways to make it better ) DO ( implement the act of change ) SHARE ( send the stories to inspire others )
  4. 4. <ul><li>2011: Successes and Triumphs </li></ul><ul><li>Sunshine School was the first school in Laos to participate in DFC. </li></ul><ul><li>Students felt proud about helping their local community. </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers felt empowered </li></ul><ul><li>People at the market were grateful that the students were doing community work </li></ul><ul><li>Featured in Vientiane Times </li></ul>

  6. 6. <ul><li>Timeline/Milestones: </li></ul><ul><li>-- Early Jan: identify list of target schools; make DFC presentation ready (English & Lao language) </li></ul><ul><li>-- Mid Jan: Present DFC to schools & registration of participating schools </li></ul><ul><li>-- Early Feb: DFC toolkits to go out to schools (gives 3 months for participating schools to run and document their projects) </li></ul><ul><li>-- Early May: Final Submissions of DFC stories </li></ul><ul><li>-- Mid-End May: Jury review and selection of award winners </li></ul><ul><li>-- June 1, 2012: Children's Day Event (see next slide) </li></ul>
