2. Szare Szeregi ( Grey Ranks )- the code
name of the underground organization
of Scouts of the Polish Scouting
Association, colloquially also of the
entire Polish Scouting Association,
during the German occupation during
World War II 1939–1945.
3. The Grey Ranks were established on September 27,
1939 in Warsaw by a group of members of the
Supreme Scouting Council. The Grey Ranks
cooperated with the Delegation of the Government of
the Republic of Poland to Poland and the Home Army
Headquarters.
4. The Scouts' organization initially included (for
underground reasons) only young people over 17
years of age.
5. Lilijka ( lily ) Szare Szeregi ( Grey Ranks ) with the
symbol of Fighting Poland
6. Separately, but also as part of the ZHP,
the Guides Organization, codenamed
"Be ready„ („Bądź gotów” ) and "The
Clover Association„ („Związek
Koniczyn” ), was organized the Guides
Service. The main task of this team
was distribution of the underground
press of the Grey Ranks.
7. The heroes of the Grey Ranks were: Jan Bytnar, pseudonym - Rudy; Maciej Aleksy Dawidowski- Alek, Tadeusz
Zawadzki- Zośka.
A book by Aleksander Kamiński was written about them titled "Kamienie na Szaniec” Stones on the Rampart, it
is a prescribed reading at our school.
