Bitcoin, based on the now-famous Blockchain technology, is getting a lot of attention in popular media lately. And rightly so! Bitcoin was first conceptualised way back in 2007 by Satoshi Nakamoto, and the first whitepaper on Bitcoin was published in the following year. This solved the problem of double spending and duplicate currency. In 2009, the Genesis Block was mined. Ever since, the Bitcoin story has only got bigger, and interesting! Lets’ revisit the Bitcoin growth from the start in 2007 to 2017 – a decade of changes. From the initial stages to the current Bitcoin exchange rate of INR 80, 456.71 in 2017, the currency is here to stay!

Satoshi Nakamoto started working on the concept
of Bitcoin in 2007. As per speculations, the mystery
man hails from Japan.
Bitcoin.org was registered.
The said domain got registered at
anonymousspeech.com, a site that allows users
to anonymously register domain names and is
currently accepting Bitcoins.
August 18
The white paper got published.
Nakamoto published a paper designed through a
metzdowd.com cryptography mailing list which
describes the Bitcoin currency and solves the prob-
lem of double spending thus, preventing the cur-
rency from being copied.
October 31
A currency exchange was born.
The Bitcoin Market was established by dollar
as a Bitcoin currency exchange.
February 6
Buysellbitco.in - Mahin Gupta launched
India’s first Bitcoin Exchange.
Microsoft started accepting bitcoins on its
platform.
Zebpay launched a simple bitcoin wallet.
PayPal started accepting bitcoin payments for
merchants.
Bitcoins hit a 3-year high, each bitcoin’s worth increased
about US$ 900.
Swiss railway ticket machines started selling Bitcoin
digital currency.
Encryption patent was published.
The encryption patent application that was filed
on August 15, 2008 by Neal Kin, Vladimir
Oksman, and Charles Bry got published.
February 18
Bitcoin value increased ten folds.
Over a 5-day period beginning on July 12, the
exchange value of Bitcoin increased 10 times
from US$0.008/BTC to US$0.080/BTC.
July 10
Slush's Pool mined its first block.
Bitcoin Pooled Mining (operated by slush), a
method by which several users worked collective-
ly to mine Bitcoins and share in the benefits and
mined its first block.
September 18
The first public version of an OpenCL miner was
released.
October 10
The first portable-to-portable transaction of Bit-
coins took place when ribuck sends doublec 0.42
BTC using Bitcoind.
December 8
The Genesis Block was mined.
Block 0, the genesis block, was established at
18:15:05 GMT.
January 3
25% of total Bitcoins were generated.
With the generation of Block 1,05,000, 5.25
million Bitcoins were generated, totaling more
than 25 percent of the projected almost 21
million.
January 28
The first Bitcoin ATM in the world was established
in San Diego, California.
Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic started accepting
Bitcoin for space travel.
Bitcoin's mysterious creator nominated for the
Nobel Prize in Economics.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission
announced Bitcoin a commodity.
1 Bitcoin equals = 1197.54 US Dollar.
As on February, 2017, 1 Bitcoin = INR 80456.71
Bitcoin Market got updated.
A major update to the Bitcoin Market website
