HISTORY The Green Building Maintenance was
started in 2007 by Stewart Cleaning Services and
Performance Enhancement Training Solutions with
the sole purpose of providing a comprehensive
Janitorial training program for those released from
youth or adult prisons. The Green Sustainable
Institute is currentlly hosted and administered by the
National reentry Network for Returning Citizens.
GOALS Facilitates a 24 week Progressive and Holistic Training programs
which includes Continuum Of Care Services which focuses on the
developmental characteristics—physical, personal, social, emotional,
intellectual, and spiritual to promote positive outcomes and behaviors among
young people in reentry.
Our goal is to remove employment and personal barriers for the hard to
employ population and to promote the hiring and the retention of these
individuals. And through our Continuum Of Care Services, reduce recidivism
among these citizens and assist them to pathways for productive lives.
MODEL Recruitment from our local partners including the Mayor’s Office for
Returning Citizens Affairs (MORCA) and DC Department Of Employment
Services (DOES)
2. WHO WE SERVE
Youths (ages 16-25) who are formerly incarcerated and a DC resident and
have attended an orientation for the Green Sustainability Institute
Benefits to Participants:
● Advanced hands-on technical training to enter the Janitorial Industry
training
● National Green Cleaning certifications for those who complete the
training
● Employer matching support for training graduates
● Additional support to address most immediate needs of graduates
while employed
PROVEN SUCCESS
Job Placement Rate: 70%
Number served since 2007: 352 graduates (367 participants)
Attendance Rate: 95%
When we look at our history with this particular population, once in a
structured environment and given an assessment, the men and women
become very focus and soak up the information and tend to be more
committed to achieving successful personal outcomes.

WHERE WE ARE HEADED NEXT
Over the next year, we hope to expand our services to those of our
graduates who still struggle to find employment. We are further building out
support services for those who choose to open up their on business in the
green industry.
Business development support for our graduates in starting the following
green businesses
Commercial/Residential Cleaning, Carpet & Rug Shampoo, Green Street
Cleaning, Composts, Recycling/Waste Management, Community
Beautification Project, Rain Gardens, Weed & Graffiti Removal and Water
Spouts Rain Runoff.
Addressing factors that can lead to our graduates being re-incarcerated:
Tattoo removal, Criminal Record sealing, Child support payment help, Family
Reunification, Paying off debt/restitution, Accessing loans and Finding
affordable housing.
HOW TO ENROLL AS A STUDENT
1. Attend a Green Sustainable Institute Orientation Session
2. Pass a clean drug screening test
3. Register with DC American Jobs Center & DCNetworks.org
4. Complete a Basic Skills Assessment Exam and tool with our staff
